back to article Intel says server CPUs will be hot again – in a good way, to power AI workloads – any year now

Intel has returned to profitability, grown revenue, and suggested demand for AI will ensure its struggling foundry business wins customers and boosts its datacenter CPU business. Chipzilla advised investors of the above on Thursday when it announced its Q3 FY 2025 results, which saw it win $13.7 billion in revenue – a three …

    Weapons for the last war…

Are evidence of just how much Intel is playing catchup… the "inference" market for desktop machines has already arrived but isn't likely to be growth market, just part of the routine IT inventory update. AMD is already there so Intel won't be able to charge the premium that it used to do for "new" features.

I wouldn't hold out too much hope for data centres either – more and more phones can do the work locally and "edge" stuff will already be running ARM. As for partnering with Microsoft - not really a stellar record in the hardware department.

Relying on enforced Window upgrades is not going to last for very long. The old Wintel conspiracy will cease to work in the future and Intel were too late to really profit from the AI explosion.

Despite warm encouraging words I don't think that Intel are out of the woods yet.

No, but that stake by the US government looks like it reduces capital risk for everyone else…

Intel is done for. They've talked about 18A for years and it's still not production ready. They don't have anything else in the pipeline of note.

    Slippery when soap-opera-ed

Good to see Intel starting to crawl back out of that grave its "Deadly Viper Assassination Squad" board live-buried it in when they katana-defenestrated Gelsinger and all ... hope they get back to that $50 per share they rode 4 years ago soon; after a customary glass of water maybe?
