back to article Monty Widenius 'heartbroken' at the extent of Oracle's MySQL job cuts

Oracle has instigated "widespread layoffs" across its core MySQL development team, sparking concern about the future of one of the world's most popular open-source databases. It looks like multiple great, tenured people were laid off from MySQL team at Oracle – Peter Zaitsev Larry Ellison photo by drserg via Shutterstock …

    It’s Oracle. What’d you expect?

It was just a question of time, and I am sure those who were laid off knew it was coming. You saw what Oracle did with Solaris, and now, unsurprisingly, they did the same with MySQL.

      Meh

I just pray that with these desperate cost-savings having been forced upon them, struggling Oracle manages to stay afloat and avoids bankruptcy.

    Significance is unexplained.

The significance of 70 being made redundant is unexplained. Is it 70 from a team of 80 or 700. I see this sort of poor reporting very frequently even on the BBC (e.g. Company X closing 30 shops, but out of how many is not given). I do realise that for each of the 70 people losing their job it will be a big blow. Getting a new job in the Trump era is not going to be a walk in the park.
