back to article Huawei's battery energy storage systems run out of juice in the UK

Huawei's product portfolio in Britain is about to shrink again with suppliers informed that its battery energy storage systems (BESS) are to be discontinued locally by the end of 2025. Sources who asked to remain anonymous told The Register that existing inventory will be cleared out and all existing warranties honored, though …

    Great

Now that the evil Huawei monopoly has been broken, we can buy quality stuff from a free, competitive, trusted market of thousands of independent companies, from AHAHUA to MOFPOW to ZWXIOT

And we are sure that no three (or four) letter agencies will be putting their collective noses in the quality stuff gear from the trusted market of independent companies that have all our well-being in mind.

I quote enjoy looking up the locations of these gigantic yet unknown Chinese manufacturies in far flung corners of their country

One wonders why Huawei hasn't availed itself of the Investor-State Dispute Settlement (ISDS) system.

Perhaps they recognise that politics would prevent a fair hearing.

I guess that a combination of better business opportunities elsewhere and a lack of desire to have one or more of their executives banged up in Belmarsh awaiting extradition to the US clinched it.

The world is a big place.

Did they jump or were they pushed?

I doubt we'll ever be told the truth, but strongly suspect it was the latter,

The politics of dealing with the UK as a USA lapdog is... "Difficult"

Other European countries pushed back against the USA's more insane demands somewhat harder and it's clear that the USA has pretty much lost any remaining semblance of sticking to its 1946 global trade stance in favour of reversing to protectionism and economic warfare

Unfortunately for the USA, it's gone from 40% of global trade in 1992 to 14% today (USA trade has doubled in that period, but other economies grew faster) meaning that instead of being the only 900 pound gorilla in the room it's now one of 6 in the building.

Huawei are cutting their losses, but there are 6 billion consumers in other markets they can sell to outside the Global North. The politics and chest beating is irritating but not debilitating.

    They will be missed

Superb hardware at a reasonable price. We installed hundreds of Huawei solar inverters because, among other benefits, they have by far the best reliability in the market. This always was the case, but the serious quality issues recently plaguing the supposedly premium manufacturer SolarEdge has really highlighted how good Huawei are. There isn't an obvious American manufacturer for installers to turn to as an alternative, so the politics of this are a bit lost on me.

I think it's just that, politics. Huawei = Chinese = Evil! Their battery storage systems are also rather good, especially compared to say, Tesla. Buy a PowerWall that may or may not contain used batteries from their EVs. Errm.. No thanks.
