Typical kind of individual setting up bullshit crypto for illicit gains. His methods were a bit on the extreme and he deserves to rot in jail and fingers crossed a few sore entry holes over this period.

I suppose with a sentence of 47 years another few years seems neither here nor there although I suppose if he survives the 47 years he might start to feel a bit stupid although by that time he might be so institutionalise that he might not even want to be released.

It likely pushes out the date that he is eligible for parole and decreases the odds that a parole board will see him as a candidate for early release.

IIRC, US federal courts don't have parole. They have 1-month-off-for-1-year-good-behaviour or some such.

The article mentions the Justice Dept, so I'm assuming it was federal, not state.

Prison guards typically wouldn't carry firearms in areas where they can be overpowered by prisoners.
