back to article Altman embraces inner Viking, raids Europe with 100K GPU supercluster in Norway

OpenAI's Stargate initiative has teleported to Europe, where the AI flag bearer has enlisted datacenter builder Nscale and Norwegian energy magnate Aker ASA to deploy a 100,000-GPU compute cluster in the Arctic by 2026. And not so good news for Germany or the UK

230 MW is modest in terms of grid scale generation, but if built then that's 230MW less that can be exported to Germany and the UK, both of whom built interconnectors to pull in Norwegian electricity in response to their own failed energy policies. In both cases the Nordic power is a very small part of total demand, but in the electricity market everything hinges on the marginal unit. There's already a certain amount of objection in Norway that by linking to these two larger markets, Norway is importing energy price volatility, and higher average energy prices.
