Do y's'pose that someone should tell the investors ...
... that the results are going just as expected?
What, you mean the investors thought THEY were the ones who were going to get rich?
There is indeed one born every minute ...
Amazon CEO Andy Jassy insists "AI will change every customer experience," but it's making investors nervous. The company reported Q2 2025 financial results that exceeded analysts' expectations but nonetheless saw shares slump almost 7 percent in after-hours trading. The disconnect appears to be projected Q3 2025 operating …
Was if it could learn my preferences well enough that if I'm looking for a particular product it would make the same choice I would - so if I'm looking for a new vacuum cleaner I could tell it "buy me a new vacuum" and it would instantly find and order the same one I would have chosen. Whether it is something I don't consider too difficult a choice and make in 30 seconds, or I spend a few hours researching via google and reading reviews both on and off Amazon before deciding.
But I'd never trust an Amazon AI whose programmers/trainers would have incentive in getting me to buy a more expensive product that made more profit for them, or tilting my purchases towards products made by some third party who was paying them off. I'd want a "personal" AI that's responsible to me alone, or failing that at least not have any vested interest in the outcome of my interaction with Amazon.
AI is never going to improve your customer experience. AI is only there to increase the profitability of the seller.
This is via dark patterns designed by the AI to ensure you spend more money, or by paying off meatbags behind the scenes to reduce the wage bill.
Never assume it's for your benefit because it's not, ever.
But how will you spend more Amazon when you have been paid off when your employer replaces you with an ineffectual AI to meet that quarter's growth expectations?
It's a con.
Having/processing more data doesn't automatically translate into more profit. There is only so far you can go before the law of diminishing returns kicks in, whilst the global economy caps sales. Trump's taxiffs are a huge sales tax increase on Americans, so that will reduce sales and profits, with a higher cut going to the USG. It is a really daft time to spend more money attracting less profit.
We stopped needing faster computers for mainstream computing years ago, even if MS keep making Windows worse to try to force the issue.
We don't even need faster bandwidth either, although having what we should have would be good.
So the adverts for faster processors and nextG are also now more obvious cons.
AI is, genuinely, a massive con. GAFA are screwing you over. Throw your money in a pit if you want, but don't expect sympathy when this all collapses.
