back to article Japan discovers object out beyond Pluto that rewrites the Planet 9 theory

Japan’s National Astronomical Observatory last week announced the discovery of a small body with an orbit beyond Pluto’s, and scientists think its presence means the “Planet 9” theory should be revisited. The Observatory named the body 2023 KQ14 and explained its FOSSIL (Formation of the Outer Solar System: An Icy Legacy) …

It's impractical. Isn't that a beautiful excuse to not obey the law ?

    I'm sorry, Your Honor.

It was impractical for me to not hack that bank account and transfer the $60 million to my account.

    I needed the money.

    Why?

Why would anyone give their banking and employment history to a political party?

Data is a risk not an asset. Entities should only hold the bare minimum. Preferably on paper in a locked cupboard.

Can't remember the full quote - really do need to go dig out my copy again and re-re-re-re-read it...

Or watch the original adaptation. Although the second wasn't too bad... So that's my evening planned: Thanks!

The original was the brilliant radio series. The books were the first adaptations. The TV series came a poor third.

      WTF?

      Re: Why?

You understand that some people work for political parties, right? I mean, who do you think issued this 'impracticable to notify individuals' BS, and set up the vulnerable systems and/or let the baddies (worsies?) in? People who work for (let me try to say this with a straight face) Trumpet of Patriots.

...and he'll be suing Farge here in the UK for stealing his "Big Beautiful Genius" ideas soon too. Farages latest "original" idea is the ship convicts off to foreign jails (while spending £17B from the magic money tree on 30,000 new prison places and a few coppers) - not sure where the idea for 30,000 prison places comes from. Maybe that's the estimate of the number of knuckle-draggers in the more vocal side of his "party")

Knowing how that party operates - and knowing they were spam texting everyone in the entire country. combined with the very loose 'any data we held at any time'. Id say its likely they bought a masstive trove of data on everyone in the country from data brokers then lost the lot. That'd explain 'we cant contact everybody'......

    > spotted it during 2023 [...] Follow-up observations in July 2024 [...] allowed scientists to track its orbit over 19 years

So it has been 19 years from 2023 to 2024? No wonder I feel old.

I might hazard a guess that having spotted it, they were then able to go back through older data and spot it there also.

Of course, but still, the way it is written is a little strange. Deep in "WTF" territory... :-D

Japan discovers object out beyond Pluto that rewrites the Planet 9 theory

We already have 9 planets. Anything after Pluto will be planet 10.

      Oh, here we go...

(Though FWIW I too consider Pluto a planet. Maybe because for the majoirty of my life it was always considered a planet by everyone. Flame on!)

...as in ten in Roman numerals, and iPhones.

Pluto was recognized as the ninth planet for many decades—until Earth's overzealous scientific authorities, evidently lacking more pressing concerns, reclassified it as a 'dwarf planet.'

I have filed an appeal with the United Federation of Planets, and my Tellarite lawyer assures me that victory is not only probable—it’s inevitable.
