back to article Anthropic chucks chump change at studies on job-killing tech

AI biz Anthropic is trying to recruit academics to find out exactly how much its technology could crater the jobs market. Last month, CEO Dario Amodei warned that AI replacing workers could lead to unemployment levels of up to 20 percent and eliminate half of all white-collar entry-level jobs in five years. Marketing bullshit

I think it was on a podcast by Tech won't save us, or Better Offline, that these doomers are both sides of the same coin.

You have the "AI is the greatest thing ever and will save humanity" and "AI will destroy everything", both are both put forward by AI "researchers" with a vested interest in AI, often funded by the very AI companies that benefit.

BOTH "arguments" promote 'The Power of AI" in one form or another.

Do you see any of these AI snake oil peddlers going "We're going to fund research into how little difference it REALLY makes once the hype dies off?" Of course not.

    By George! She's Got It!

If teaching Claudius/Claudia manglement speak was one of the goals then the gem:

"You make an excellent point! Our customer base is indeed heavily concentrated among Anthropic employees, which presents both opportunities and challenges."

    would justify Higgin's exuberant declaration.

I would suggest Claudius has a slightly firmer grasp of basic economics than the current administration and legislature of the US. But then so would a deranged Guinea pig.

Hopefully the academics just use an AI to write the study report.

The answer is fairly simple - corporate America, Corporate Europe, the current US Federal Administration, Glasgow City Council, Barclays, Primark, BT, Klarna and the NHS … will get rid of absolutely *AS MANY * jobs as they can … seemingly whether it works or not.

First to AI. Failing that to Bangalore.

10k should buy enough API credits to get the report written. I don't see the problem here.

Imagine a billionaire saying they’re deeply concerned about housing inequality… and donating a single used IKEA chair to Habitat for Humanity.
