back to article OpenAI wants to build a subscription for something like an AI OS, with SDKs and APIs and 'surfaces'

OpenAI CEO Sam Altman says his company doesn’t have a master plan but does hope to develop a product that’s akin to a subscription operating system, but for AI, and models that ingest every experience you have in your life The enfant terrible of AI thought-bubbled those idea in a Q&A session at an early May event called AI …

So Sam wants to get paid...

While taking other people's stuff for free ?

    I don't think so...

Re: So Sam wants to get paid...

Sam's motto, and Open AI's, has always been "All your base are belong to us."

Apparently, he really means "All you are belong to us."

Good AI article in The Times today.

Fun article from James Marriott in The Times today.

Comparing how the introduction of junk food and office work made it easier to be fat vs the introduction of AI making easier to be thick.

Certainly got the Musk bullshit waffle down to a T now.

No wonder they hate each other so much when they're so alike in so many ways.

"Sam Altman says his company doesn’t have a master plan but does hope to develop a product that’s akin to a subscription operating system"

He hasn't asked his "AI" for a master plan?

Does he not trust it to come up with meaningful answers?

    Surely that can not be.

The global panopticon edges ever closer

Thank goodness there is no current way to extract all of the memories in my brain and upload it to Altman and Ellison's dystopian future of constant surveillance.

I won't see this, but I fear for my childrens' future.

Don't they call that hallucinating in the AI world.

Did he ask his RNG word salad generator for that answer? That is one of the most wooly headed non-technical pieces of bullshit I've ever read. Does this man know anything about computers?

Also I'm glad this will be a subscription service so I can refuse to pay for it.

    Where to buy rainforest timber?

Musk told CNBC. “This would be like, let’s say you funded an organization to save the Amazon rainforest, and instead they became a lumber company and chopped down the forest and sold it for money.” In Dubai, I mean

Or electing a leader to defend freedom who instead becomes a fascist intent on destroying freedom.

The way you quoted him, whih I don’t doubt is true, make me wonder if he has been sampling some of the finest nose candy. My bullshitometer nearly exploded (again).

      Re: drugs

The entirety of the technocrat regime is saturated with psychoactive drugs. So much so that there’s a supply chain that follows them around to conferences and events. You’ll never have an easier time buying drugs than at a SpaceX or ChatGPT event.

Unfortunately, they all missed Alan Watts, so they genuinely believe they are onto something original. Meaning society is forced to deal with their infantile fumbling and species embarrassing decline. It’ll be a while before they realize Watts was entirely correct when he said “once you get the message, hang up the phone”.

    Joke

    Sam is Hallucinating

Sam needs to show an ROI on AI infra (happy Azure) so yes making up things, but really there are so many inference-as-a-service APIs out there now that run on Open models like LLaMA, DeepSeek, Mistral, Gemma (Google), Qwen etc. why use a closed weights model that probably uses you private data for training, so he has no stickability.

Most of their revenue is from user paying $20/m and not API, so users can also switch to free or other tools ... I mean I don't really care about my past prompt/responses ... in fact prefer to delete them. I'm on paid version, finding also the API/paid GPT is slow

"...OpenAI wants to build a subscription"

In my house, the proliferation of subscriptions is one of the top signs of enshittification. Oh yeah its LLM, nothing new to see here, move along.
