OpenAI is a joke
Why don't they just admit that ChatGPT etc just wastes time and reduce productivity. All these models do is regurgitate old content, and if people use them and stop actually thinking, everything will stagnate.
Instacart CEO Fidji Simo is leaving to become CEO of Applications at OpenAI, reporting directly to Sam Altman, the AI heavyweight announced on Thursday. Altman will remain in charge of the GPT-maker and continue overseeing all major divisions, but he said bringing Simo on will allow him to increase his focus on research, …
No, you don't understand. People feel like they gained a superpower. Suddenly they are brilliant and can be experts at anything they want. They can write amazing emails, play out arguments with the manager, strategise getting a pay rise, get a refund from a stubborn company refusing to give one or figure out how to do something in Word without having to watch million tutorials that say everything except what you want to do.
People actually don't like to think and this is where AI comes in. It's like a car for the brain.
This is also where people who actually enjoy thinking get their edge.

Also, they have a BFF and lover who will never let them down.
For that you would be willing to pay, don't you?
I am wondering how long it will take before their AI BFF will start asking for presents? That is a well developed business and revenue model.
However, the last version of their ChatGPT was a little too much of a sycophant and had to be retracted. Sycophancy has to thread a fine line.
"Joining OpenAI at this critical moment is an incredible privilege and responsibility. This organization has the potential of accelerating human potential at a pace never seen before and I am deeply committed to shaping these applications toward the public good," Simo said in a canned statement.
Whereas mine would be a bit more truthful.
Make hay from the modern day tulip frenzy / South Sea bubble, whatever. Bug pay check, I'll soon have the net worth of a tiny country.
I will use my "skills" from FaeceBook and monetize those mug punter small consumers (big business will soon realize ROI for AI sucks coupled with it being too hallucinatory unreliable for anything mission critica, so your average Joe is increasingly the way to go whilst the gravy train hype is still in full flow)
