    Sure, and can you see any open source project being able to stump up a quarter-of-a-mil? No? Why not? I'm sure they'd love to.

    Perhaps being a commercial product is how they got to being able to spaff out that amount of money.

    I'd like to spend a million bucks on a huge shop full of tools, but somehow I'm not able to. Can't imagine why... perhaps it's something to do with my bank balance?

      The point (which seems to have flown over your head at altitude) is that the information they're not sharing will likely be subject to NDA and could be regarded as yet another ransom for victims "buy our product or else"
