Institute for Pure American Physics
Won't be doing any of that decadent $ETHNIC physics.
How did that work out in the last arms race?
In line with Trump administration directives, the US government's National Science Foundation has started canceling grants for studies into workplace diversity and the spread of misinformation. NSF director Sethuraman Panchanathan laid it out plainly in a Friday statement: The federal agency uses just two statutory criteria to …
It's time to get rid of that Zero that those ay-rab furriners invented. Did you know it has a vulnerability, that dividing by zero blows up a computer?
Decent, god-fearing American* computers should only use ones. One race, one country, one President - You know it makes sense!
* "American" excludes other inhabitants of the Americas continents.
Aaaaaahhhhh, the world famous Gulf of Vespucci, the locus of such Vespucci pride in the history of Vespucci greatness, an indelible part of Vespucci's momentous seafood, most bestest in the hole World!
Shouldn't that read 'Trump maladministration'?
As for 'protected characteristics'. I feel I should assist here and point out that Trump voters are wildly underrepresented when it comes to getting grants for advanced STEM research, despite being 100% American. Many of them are itching to get some NSF cash to study intelligent design and produce some hard data on prayer outcomes, yet their applications are rejected. Is this a government-funded NSF war on white, working-class Christians? Shocking. Time surely for America to go 'back to basics' and embrace its core values, redirecting funding there. They can leave the stuff about self-adaptive processors, intelligent networks, inherently secure platforms and distributed DNS systems to us weird godless foreigners, whilst they fund the important research on 'science with American characteristics'.
Knowledge is so passé! Orange, the Most Majestic, the Most Holy, will reward everyone according to his merits in advancing belief. Such is the all-encompassing free speech nature of the magaverse, as we actively punish (and silence) the disloyals who dare disagree (trans, woke, immigrants, students, cybersecurists, journalists, scientists, etc ...).
Please stand by momentarily as we now re-witchcraft la mathématiques too ...
We need to get tough on economics and their equations
All science is in essence a study of misinformation. After all, if it ain't true, it ain't science.
For a National Science Foundation to happily stop trying to prevent the dissemination of falsehoods is a betrayal of scientific principles.
This is like watching a self-performed lobotomy
my main concern is the scientists and their work, or course, but I can't envy the board members position right now either.
They either cut anything "woke" or risk being replaced by a 17yr old "flat earth truther" who goes by @pep3goku88.
I could be wrong, of course, perhaps this purge will "make science great again".
e.g. important discoveries in phrenology and creation science.
"Nothing whatsoever. But defunding programs which no longer align with the current political ideology or viewpoint because you've decided they don't fit in with your world-view and have changed the qualifying criteria is neither logical or scientific. It's just stupid."
Ah, so you are saying that the programs in place were "ideological" in nature. In that case it was the previous Govt that created the problem not the current one who are simply returning things back to normal. ( ie Removing the woke crap where it should never have been in the 1st place)
>” Ah, so you are saying that the programs in place were "ideological" in nature.”
Well looking to history you could say that:
Clearly Galileo’s work on planetary motion were “ideological”, as they contradicted the view/“ideology” of the Catholic Church.
So basically, it’s not that “the previous government” created the problem, it’s just that the current government has an ideology that is so blinding, it is unable to look through the telescope…
History also tells us, such blinked ideologies and their adherents always loose…
So, a bit of clarification would be in order, then.
The UK Supreme court stated that, in regards to the Equalities act of 2010, the term woman was defined as Human Female and man was Human Male. This allows the act to be read as intended at the time of writing, which would allow a Trans Man who got pregnant to receive maternity care and access to the maternity suite at a hospital.
The issue was the Scottish Parliament tried to back-door in a change to the Equalities Act that would have resulted in Trans men being denied maternity care (which falls under Women's Health) should they get pregnant. Only the Scottish Parliament then tried to fudge things by saying 'well, there will be exceptions'. The Supreme court disagreed: That would render the act unworkable and it would be too confusing over what part referred to a woman by gender, and what by sex. Hence they referred to the definition as provided in the act itself: That it was based on biological sex. Worse was the way the Scottish Parliament tried to back-door this in was through a separate bill that was limited to Scotland, which would place Scottish Law as superior to UK law (which is certainly not allowed).
What people are missing is the court also noted that the Act can be changed via amendment, and all the Scottish Parliament had to do was table such an amendment to the UK parliament. Then it could have been reviewed, issues noted and proposed solutions to discrepancies provided and then voted on so it applied to the whole of the UK. And for reference: There's been a fair few amendments over the years. Last looks to have been in 2023.
So you might think the Judges know 'fuck all' about science, but they know a hell of a lot about the law and how to read and understand legislation.
Also, semantics are a thing. We can make a 'word' mean whatever we want it to mean, but in order to communicate effectively it helps if there is general agreement as to the meaning of particular words.
Problems begin when we hijack words with long established meanings and change the meaning to suit a particular agenda. Chaos and bad feeling tends to ensue, until, finally, some agreement emerges, either including or expelling the hijack attempt.
You clearly haven't read the SC ruling. It doesn't say there are two sexes. It says "The definition of sex in the EA 2010 makes clear that the concept of sex is binary". The definition of sex in the Equality Act is the only definition the judges are concerned with, and they didn't make it.
Whereas in the USA and according to the current Government's list of approved words (that ban the use of Trans anything) WOMAN or WOMEN is not allowed. MAN and MALE is.
This is clearly the prelude to 'A Handmaids Tale' society being introduced by Stephen 'Goebbels' Miller.
Let's propose to american scientists and other scientists working in the US to come to work in Europe. . They will find a place where they are free and where their works will be supported. It will be a big win for Europe.
Yeah, that same thing that was managed by the EPA that Trump has just removed all rules and regulations on it in one horrible signature of an Executive Order.
Trump has just given the green light to pollute everything in the USA in search of the $$$$.
Those researchers will find plenty of new areas to investigate and problems that need solving
Oh, and watch out for more animal species in the USA going extinct. The rules protecting them have gone just like all the EPA ones.
and was ignored/forgotten in the 75+ years since 1984 was published.
Trumps word is the new word of Big Brother. Speak against him and it will be Room 101 for you. Only this time, Room 101 will be in El Salvador and there is only an entrance. Exit is not allowed even if you are a citizen of Trumpistan (the new name for the USA) MTGA (Make Trumpistan Great Always)
The new flag will have just three stars on it. One each for New York, New Jersey and Florida where the Dear Leader has a golden palace. The new Capital will be in Florida (guess where) as DC will be systematically destroyed by the MTGA faithful.
What a crazy world we live in...
When someone in the Netherlands buys something for $1 off Ebay USA, it will cost in the end: $1 + E. 34 admin costs + 10% import duties + 21% VAT = 0.90 + 0.09 + 0.21 + 34 = E 35.20. This amounts to over 4000% import tariffs.
Friends living in North-Carolina paid 4% on top of the purchase price when they buy something from Europe before the new tariffs of president Trump were implemented.
A Chevrolet Corvette costs in the USA around $ 85,000, in the Netherlands over E 250,000, this is far over 300% import tariffs.
The 21% VAT in Europe gives European manufacturers an advantage when it comes to pricing, since they are able to recover VAT.
The Europeans seem to have pretty high trade barriers, they better tone down the rhetoric a bit.
Do pay attention please, VAT is a universal sales tax which is not dependent on where the goods are manufactured. It is not a tariff. Most importantly, it is paid by the end consumer, not the manufacturer. Manufacturers can claim it back *because* they are *NOT* the end consumer of the goods, but the VAT is, ultimately, paid on the same goods by the end consumer.
Chevrolet, as all companies worldwide, doesn't care about VAT, since the figures they are publishing always exclude VAT.
If their cars are so expansive in Europe, according to your figures, it has nothing to do with VAT, but may be related to transportation costs and upgrades needed to make the car conform with basic security features mandatory in Europe (and also probably a tax for generating as much pollution as a Space X rocket when starting the motor).
When someone in the Netherlands buys something for $1 off Ebay USA, it will cost in the end: $1 + E. 34 admin costs + 10% import duties + 21% VAT = 0.90 + 0.09 + 0.21 + 34 = E 35.20.
And what exactly are these "admin costs", something special charged by eBay USA for exports? Hardly an EU problem. If someone in the Netherlands buys something from eBay NL they'll pay the same (including the VAT) except for the 10% import tarifs.
Friends living in North-Carolina paid 4% on top of the purchase price when they buy something from Europe
Well, plus the postage charges and "admin costs". Good of you to choose a state with such low sales taxes, though. In CA they'll have to add 7.5%.
A Chevrolet Corvette costs in the USA around $ 85,000, in the Netherlands over E 250,000
Nonsense. GM don't sell much in the EU, they have no significant dealer networks, but even so there are companies that will provide an entry-level corvette for €130k or so, and in the UK it's 'only' £100k. If people actually wanted to buy them they would probably sell for less, but most people in the EU want well-made cars that don't have gas-guzzling 5 litre engines, so things like Corvettes are niche purchases which command higher prices. The various middlemen probably account for most of the extra costs.
The 21% VAT in Europe gives European manufacturers an advantage when it comes to pricing, since they are able to recover VAT.
You clearly don't understand how VAT works. It's paid to the government by the final purchaser, so doesn't matter if the manufacturer is in EU, UK, USA or Timbuctoo, the same VAT is paid by the purchaser and it has no impact on the manufacturer.
Use the € (euro) on your keyboard, it makes things a lot easier.
It`s Ctrl Alt and 4, I`ll say again, Ctrl Alt and 4
Also what muppet is going to buy something from Ebay USA that`s listed @ $1 then end up paying over €35 for? I just don`t get what the €34 admin costs are for!
Plus, from a quick search, a Chevrolet Corvette z06 1lz 2025 is Euro 110,955 in The Netherlands, why make stuff up like El presidenti...
And just to add to all the true and correct information already provided, US goods in the EU and UK tend to cost more than in the USA because we demand a higher quality with a mandatory minimum 2 year warranty, which is also factored into the consumer retail price. The higher quality is a consequence of the 2 year warranty, and in most cases, there's a tailing "warranty" whereby goods should have an "expected lifespan", which allows the buyer to still claim a level of support and free repairs or partial refund even after the 2 year warranty expires.
