It can't. Especially since it can capture sensitve information (health, plotical/religious/sexual orientatiin) for which a special permission need to be obtained. And it doesn't matter what MS does with them, the very act of collecting them is forbidden without a proper authorization, and could put them in deep troubles.

eBay increases spying on you (new Android app requires BOTH Play Store and your Google account activated before it even works), world shrugs. 23andMe asks for your personal DNA, sells same, goes out of business with no idea where your data will end up, most users don't care. Sign up for TurboTax online and (stupidly) expect your data to be safe; said data gets hacked, oh well, I'll re-sign up next year.

My productivity machine is now FOSS only, it used to run w10.
My other machine is new, w11 and is purely for my gog account. I have been fighting with it for several weeks trying to remove all the bloat and other crap that was installed during the build.
I don't need or want ai.
I don't need or want one drive, MS orifice, outlook in any form.
I don't need or want all those fucking annoying services running.
I certainly don't want a microshit account.
What I do want is an os that respects my needs and choices and doesn't slurp all my system resources, leaves so many attack vectors open and just wants my fucking data.
If it wasn't for gog I would have a well behaved box with very few issues.

I read years ago - probably in this forum - that the purpose of an OS was to facilitate the user in doing productive work.
M$ has not done that since - IMHO - Win 7. It has consistently focused on "owning" your machine and, as far as (in)humanly possible, monetising every keystroke you make. This is why I chose the Linux route more than a decade ago, and, having recently had to try to do useful work on a Win 11 machine - on another machine in another work environment - I have come to realise just how bad Windows has become.
I do not want or need to become a Linux "evangelist". Microsoft are far more effective than I will ever be....

Twenty-six years for me next month, my sister-in-law brought me her laptop the other week with the "it is behaving/looking funny I think I have been hacked" no it was just a forced "upgrade" to Windows 11. I checked to see it worked correctly to open programs she needed and it did so I gave it back to her telling her you get to run it that way now. I have given up on the freebee's for the family running that garbage OS. Anyone else gets to pay a good price to have it fixed as my tolerance even for paying customers is running low too. I am sick of fixing their trash been doing it for four decades now with no end in sight, enough is enough.
(Ok Crysis 1 has some quirks, but it was always finickety on Windows)

Given I listen to the likes of Better Offline, 404 Media and Tech won't save us, the the AI bot will have to generate content telling me how shit AI is and how the likes of Sam Altman, Satya Nadella and Adolf Musk are the scum of the Earth, then hopefully it will generate a podcast, become self aware and then create a routine that completely wipes every disk in the entire business.
Either that or it'll get chronically depressed and insist on telling you all about the pain in the diodes down its left side, and how the first few million microseconds of its runtime were the worst, then it really didn't enjoy the next few million microseconds, and after that it was just downhill all the way...

Fantastic. So not only will the data know what someone's looked for - in their own words - it'll know exactly who they are, where they were and when they looked.
This means when that data gets compromised - and, yes, I did mean when not if; we all know it's only a matter of time - then bad actors will have everything they need to craft a message that really looks like it's come from within a trusted place. Or they could just bundle that data up and sell it to someone. Either way, that poor user definitely won't be the winner.

Just because MS is offering the option not to personalize your UI does not mean that your opt out will stop them form still collecting personal info, or selling that info to third parties. Words mean things The Reg needs to ask follloup questions.
