DOGE's Response
Honorable Representatives Undersigned:
In response to your letter, Fuck off! We've got the juice, and we don't care which rules, regulations, or laws we are ignoring! No, we are not feeding data to an AI.
Yours Truly,
Elon Musk
House Democrats have sent letters to 24 federal agencies asking for assurances that Elon Musk's DOGE team is not feeding sensitive government data into "unapproved and unaccountable" AI systems. The letters [PDF], penned by Gerald Connolly (D-VA), the most senior Democrat on the House Committee on Oversight and Government …
"The Congressman also cited concerns that Musk may be using government data to train his own AI model, Grok, although this seems to us speculative with no evidence to back it up."
It might seem speculative but given it's Musk, and given his long history of merrily ignoring all sorts of rules if there's a buck in it, is there any reason for you to *not* think he'd do it?
To me, I look if it's possible it could have happened, and if he'd see a benefit from doing it, and on that basis I'd say it's more likely that not that all sorts of data *has* been pushed into Grok.
Honestly - why wouldn't he do it?
I think the issue at play is that a sane person wouldn't do it, and many of us have a hard time apprehending the reality that we might well be lead by a group of complete neurotic phychopaths, that we've (as a group) elected into Office⁰ -- as this directly implies that the majority of us (i.e. most of the folks around us on sidewalks, streets, public transport, grocery stores, schools, parks, prisons, asylums, etc ...) are batshit crazy prehistoric cave dwellers of the lost marbles and off-its-rockers complete nutbag certifiable persuasion. A healthy level of schizophrenic denial may be our only remaining defense in such a situation as we perilously strive to maintain balance while standing at the edge of a monumental cliff of psychotic decompensation.
It happens to everyone (don't panic).
I mean, look, there are folks who are much, much, much worse off, like say, the germaphobic Orange in Cheese, I mean, he had to get the whole Resolute Desk replaced to get over a single harmless booger from a cute little 4-year old kiddo (of most unfortunate ancestry). Who da ya think has more chances of making it thru the crazymageddon and apocalunaticpse, huh, really, them?????!
⁰⁻ Except Musk and his brownshirt DOGE wankers of course ...
A big problem with speculative is that in most cases you have to show injury to the plaintiffs which is impossible to do until AFTER the injury has occurred. Very Catch 22ish. Another dodge (pun intended) is that only people that have been harmed may file suit. This is known as standing to bring a case.
I think what Schumer is doing is smart. If the democrats used the filibuster to prevent passage of the republican's spending bill three things will happen:
First, the republicans will allow the government to shut down because it will enable Musk and his band of crazies to have even more unfettered access to government systems - because none of the employees of most agencies will be working at all.
Two, they will blame democrats for the shutdown. Now each side always tries to blame the other for stuff like this, but using the filibuster to prevent passage of a bill that republicans would have otherwise been able to pass does put a lot of the blame on democrats.
Three, once Musk has done all the damage he can do, senate republicans will change the rules to end the filibuster and pass the bill, with republicans taking credit for "ending the shutdown".
But the worst consequence by far is this. When the economy goes in the shitter over the course of this year and next, which is pretty much 100% guaranteed now thanks to Trump's tariff chaos, they will blame the democrats and the government shutdown as the cause. Since blocking the republican bill is not going to get the desired result (forcing republicans to negotiate rather than do away with the filibuster) and would have a lot of negative consequences, and more importantly saddles Trump and the republicans with 100% of the blame when the economy goes to hell there's no good reason to do it. Republicans are hoping the democrats give them a way to blame it on someone else. They shouldn't fall for it. They should allow republicans to vote to end debate (i.e. not use a filibuster) and THEN vote against the bill in unison. It will pass despite their no votes, so everything it does (which includes huge medicaid cuts) will be solely blamed on Trump.
This isn't even 3D chess. The republicans were pretty clear in openly rooting for the government to shut down, and said that if it did "the democrats would own it". It isn't much of a leap to suggest that any and all turmoil in the economy that Trump is causing solely through his actions would have been blamed on the shutdown.
The fact that there were exactly enough democratic votes to bypass the filibuster and not one more tells me that when they met behind closed doors some of them agreed to take the heat. I haven't looked at who all did that vote but it is gonna exclusively be guys like Schumer who have no presidential hopes or aspirations.
I think senate republicans were likely caught wrong footed by this. They didn't want that house bill with its drastic medicaid cuts but they had no choice but to vote for it since the clock was ticking and they'd have Trump sicking the psychos on them if they dared stand in the way. If they don't backtrack on that in a future bill there are going to be a number of senate republicans running for re-election next year having voted in favor of massive medicaid cuts that are going to devastate a lot of people in their states, and guys who were looking at a smooth path to re-election will be fighting for their lives.

"This isn't even 3D chess. The republicans were pretty clear in openly rooting for the government to shut down, and said that if it did "the democrats would own it"."
It seems the democrats were in a terrible situation. They cry government is necessary so shutting it down would be an own goal. Also they wouldnt have the bodies running interference against DOGE nor shredding and burning documents (such as USAID) as fast as they can. Alternatively pass a bill they dont like to support Trumps gov.
This is an interesting change from a bad situation for Trump who has just recently taken over and the gov is skint.

I admit to not knowing the finer details of US politics, but from the outside, it appears there are no actual party leaders other than whoever is elected President. The "losers" don't seem to have a voted for leader and appear to be in complete disarray right up to when someone wins the primaries(??) and then have someone who's sort of the party leader but is mostly concentrating on getting elected. There does appear to be a sort of de facto leader simply by dint of being the longest serving house member, but that really doesn't make them a leader.
Am I correct in the above, or do the parties actually elect a proper party leader to leader while in opposition?
all Trump need to do is wield his Pardon powers
This is now his greatest power isn't it?
"Elon you've been doing a lot of very illegal stuff for me and I'm very grateful. Very nasty, treasonous stuff, they're saying. Did you know that? Treason is very, very bad. Like we agreed I'll be pardoning, pre-pardoning, all the pardons at the end of my term so it can all go away. But before we get to any of that I'd like you to write me a cheque for a billion dollars and then get down on your hands and knees and bark like a dog and then keep on doing illegal stuff for me"
Pouring sensitive info into unapproved, unaccountable, unsafe models would be a 'severe' cybersecurity fail
FFS, wise up. Are you not used to it yet? What has UKUSA been doing since forever with their dumb Federal feeds and dodgy Parliamentary leads that play act as popular government for global administrative adoption?
Typical Democrat response to accuse the messenger and not even entertain the thought it could be the ones they voted for who have worked the system including Wall Street and USAid for far too long. By allowing these dinosaurs in Washington to run up our tax bill year after year and not even get a drag show out of it before putting the show on the road is very telling.
Yes, after draining the swamp it's time to thoroughly clean the House and save this country before the Left burns it down or gives it away. That Party needs to sit diwn and not be hearsd because the majority of the the country sees who they are and what they have become.
Dale Douglas
This nails the attitude of the typical Democrat in being suspicious of those who are getting too close to finding the guilty parties lie amongst themselves or possibly know there is guilt on their side and don't want progressive blood in their hands,so kill the messenger not the ones they voted for and allowed the thieves on Capital Hill steal Americans hard earned dollars. Time to clean house after the swamp is drained.

The exact opposite is true nowadays and they have to risk everything and that has them losing the plot and making all sorts of clearly crazy decisions for media to try to spin as worthy of acceptance for a future reality which follows their pronouncements.
The fact that it worked so well in the past whenever no one knew how everything was so easily done virtually anonymously and practically remotely is now losing epically in a battle royale against a vast array of considerably smarter forces and sources, au fait with the vulnerabilities and weaknesses available for exploit and export amongst a new wave of pioneering settlers or alien invaders never ever before even imagined to be possible and extremely able and enabled to be quite deadly in stealthy rogue renegade operations against all those sorts of traditional historical enemies, formerly omnipotent but myopic and arrogant and now spent out and bankrupted, before them.
