back to article Xi know what you did last summer: China was all up in Republicans' email, says book

Chinese spies reportedly broke into the US Republication National Committee's Microsoft-powered email and snooped around for months before being caught. According to a Wall Street Journal report that cites "people familiar with the matter," the Windows giant alerted top GOP officials about the security breach in early July, …

    Broke in? or Broken?

`Chinese spies reportedly broke into the US Republication National Committee's Microsoft-powered email and snooped around for months before being caught.`

Given Microsoft's legendary powers, was this a *robert redford sneakers* type of attack, or a *forest gump found the door open* exploit?

Perhaps Biden was actually warning of this, with the reference to `critical infrastructure networks in preparation for causing future destruction` being an oblique reference to helping the RNC's re-election chances.

      Re: Broke in? or Broken?

The way I figure, the Chinese snoops gathered, read, and deeply studied all the RNC emails they could get over all those months, and were a bit puzzled at first, but confirmation after confirmation meant they could just keep calm about the upcoming election, which was almost impossible given the uncontrollable urges they suddenly felt to engage in rip-roaring rib-splitting laughter, rolling on the floor, tears of unbearable joy jetting endlessly from their eyes, and all that ... "with an adversary like that", they thought to themselves, "who needs friends!?!?!?"

What had they seen, you ask? Well, the Orange Candidate wasn't going to defend Taiwan for nuthin', he was going to dissolve NATO, and pull out of the UN, he was going to appoint the least qualified and most incapable persons to the highest possible positions in all US government agencies, he was going to create a new DOGE agency to play Jenga with the Fed and see how long it took for it to collapse, he was going to be dictator for just one day that would eventually last forever, he was making plans to split the spoils of Ukraine between Putin and himself, and also planned to make Russia rejoin the G8 despite its continued expansionist aggressions, all this while writing endless love letters to Kim Jung Un, sucking on Elon Musk's toes, and alienating all of the US' long-term allies!

They saw what they needed to see, and decided at once to support this oh so #winning MAGA program ... imho!

The EU (well, liberal democracy, at any rate) is their actual enemy, China is the bogeyman they hold up to the MAGA crowd and the Kremlin is their role model.

    The important bit

"but decided not to notify the FBI. The concern here was that details would be leaked to the media."

Hopefully they can be turned into a trustworthy organisation. Might be a bit much to hope for in just 4 years though.

"Trustworthy" in Global Conservative parlance means the same as "politically correct" in the Soviet Union. The party shall not be contradicted.

Do you mean by leaking active investigation photos, attacking political opponents, violating the law to attack political opponents and using fabricated evidence? Or of course hiding the laptop to defend the family of the party, followed by trying to protect said family from investigation and dodgy 'sweetheart' deals to absolve a criminal from all other criminal actions if he pleads to one.

          Re: @Wang Cores

Interesting -- all hyperbolic and unsubstantiated rumours; basically gossip. However the FBI did launch a public investigation into Ms Clinton a month before the 2016 election; a move which was very likely the swing that the great orange retard needed to win. That investigation, of course, led to nothing, since there was nothing to investigate.

So why is Orange Hitler attacking the organization that served him so well? Afraid of skeletons perhaps?

Which bit is misinformation? Are you saying you didnt see the pictures of folders marked 'classified' after the FBI raid? Those were of an active investigation.

attacking political opponents? The state weaponised against Trump being elected.

violating the law to attack political opponents? Former FBI lawyer Kevin Clinesmith pleaded guilty to doctoring an email to get a wiretap.

using fabricated evidence? You dont still believe the Steele dossier was real do you?

Lots of chest thumping and howling about China but are we forgetting the continual data slurping and message reading by Meta, Microsoft, Google and Apple? Emails? what about every other device that listens and guides your daily life . Surely if you are involved in government you should be using encryption yes I know a certain idiot was using unsactioned unencrypted devices because he was more interested in keeping his communications private away from law enforcement and oversight than away from foreign powers.

Microsoft is not in the mix, it's the mixer.

You pour two cups of confidential data, a spoon of security, and 100k oz of money and after weeks of training, you've got a nice "AI agent to assist you to secure your account in 10 steps (answers are generated by AI, please check critical facts)".

So maybe China has an AI that outsmart Microsoft one. Or maybe it just uses few hackers.

As for FBI, they are too busy browsing through AI generated answers to Musk's "What have you f* done theses last days lazy b*?" to select the ones not saying they were watching China.
