back to article A big AI build has ‘stalled’ and won’t happen this year as funds and GPUs prove elusive

Big Tech’s plans to spend hundreds of billions on infrastructure during 2025 are often considered to demonstrate near-endless demand for artificial intelligence, but networking vendor Arista has just revealed a large AI build has “stalled” due to lack of funds and hardware. This time last year, Arista revealed it had won five …

    The canary is choking

This might be the first sign that pseudo-AI is running out of gas.

    So AI hardware...

...Is the new single point of failure? My god. We aren't even to the point of attacking the software stack yet! Entropy with be a real bitch when that happens.

My guess is the customer that is choking is Core Weave. They need more money. Do they have any Chinese customers supplying capacity to the likes of Deep Seek?

I think you'll start to see more of a vertical rack integration,

Like IBM and CA tried in the 00's with their super-duper-control-everything control centre software*?

    Same old same old*.

Readers of James Ellroy know that comment is incomplete. It makes a lot more sense with the missing adjectives included.

My 1060 can't play too many modern games now so been planning or rebuilding the whole rig. But now graphics card prices, because of the AI bollocks, have gone through the roof.

Is that because you've got a mongo-resolution monitor, or could you trim some of the fancy AA settings and the like?

My 1050Ti is likewise a gaming antique, but still keeps up with my extremely low skilled gaming needs at a decent frame rate on a 2560x1440 monitor.

Some recent games (like for example the new "Indiana Jones" game) required iirc at least an RTX30xx series or equivalent that supports hardware ray-tracing, so if that sort of game is desired than a more modern card is automatically also required.

A big AI build has ‘stalled’

    To quote Windsor Davies.

"Oh dear, how sad, never mind."

    Carry on.

I get junk AI spam calls every day in America, I always answer, "HELL ...Oh..." and most of the calls disconnect immediately but my friends reply "Oh it's great to hear you speaking English" and we have happy conversations again ... born in England, I've lived and talked in America for 40 years.

I guess AI is working for its users and helping me too (icon).

The next generation will be here soon.

Means that the stuff we are installing will be obsolete before they turn it on.

I guess investors don't even read the large print nowadays, and don't bother with all that due diligence stuff.

Still, if they have any money left after investing in the Metaverse and NFTs...
