back to article Probe finds US Coast Guard has left maritime cybersecurity adrift

Despite the escalating cyber threats targeting America's maritime transportation system, the US Coast Guard still lacks a comprehensive strategy to secure this critical infrastructure - nor does it have reliable access to data on cybersecurity vulnerabilities and past attacks, the Government Accountability Office (GAO) warns. …

Maybe they could talk to the government department in charge of Cyber Security.....oh wait..

Don’t worry the GAO will be in the Wood Chipper next.

No bad reports, “nothing to see here”.

It won't be the Chinese who disrupt US ports

After all, they are the single largest beneficiary because all of the $460bn a year China-US imports come by sea, and the $143bn of goods that they reluctantly buy from the US likewise.

They will be shipping rubber dingy’s from France to Mexico/Cuba/Bahamas to bypass the closed border pretty soon.

A large flood of small stuff, Amazon Marketplace and TEMU, come over the pole in a jet-liner as Postal Mail.

True dat the Coast Guard is rarely shot-at. But their duty is full of fools who go out in bad storms ill-prepared. By the time the idiots call for help no sane person should put life on line going out in 50' seas and gale-force winds; yet they do. (No matter how big the boat is, there's always a bigger wave.)

Maybe will something will happen, when the spotty kids running DOGE realise that US Coast Guard costs near on $14bn a year, operates a shadow navy with ships up to the size and armament of a naval frigate, has over 200 aircraft and yet makes not a blind bit of difference to contraband entering the US.

USCG offers the opportunity to wear a uniform and play with guns, planes and ships without putting your life on the line. Actually, that's exactly the sort of thing you'd think Musrumps would approve of.

What would you prefer gun-toting redneck led ‘militia’ in speedboats, on jet skis and airboats at $100 a pelt?

    Too good...

I worked with a startup that had a *very* good solution for maritime cybersecurity, but it would keep sailors from pronscrolling and downloading nudes, so nobody would buy it.

Maybe they need an "approved pron and nudes" filter :D. Moderated, checked to be compatible with the expected picture.
