if only we could, the days when individuals owned the net , pre 2000 web1 are long gone, The bin money makers capitalized it to the point of no return in web2 and web3 trying to take it back , I don't see that happening anytime soon.
there are more choices out there browsers etc, but getting the man in the street to know about them and use them is difficult. I'm finding even startups are mixed, they could go completely free of the big three but if any of the C-suite officers come from a microsoft background , they use what they know and carry on with the overweight, over-priced pile of cack.
I think tax wise they get away with alot , and alphabet tax is under thr 15% mark for last few years. If they taxed more they could use this money to fund more alternatives.
Suddenly divisive content has disappeared from YouTube. No more heated trans discussions, rainbow flags, UFOs flying etc. Is it by magic? Or just bot campaigns stopped?

"Alphabet attributed the growth to enthusiasm for Google Search and YouTube ads" must be one of the most marketing sentences ever written. If Mr. Claburn managed to write that while maintaining a straight face, he is a stronger man than I.
However, I am genuinely surprised that Alphabet didn't attribute the growth to enthusiasm for mediocre LLMs, aka slop machines.
