back to article China launches AI that writes politically correct docs for bureaucrats

Chinese web and AI giant Baidu last week teamed with government communications organ Xuexi to create a tool that generates politically correct documents for bureaucrats. Xuexi is an app that offers info about Chinese president Xi Jinping's life and thoughts – plus tools that allow users to chat about them together. Reports …

    the old is new again

1960s called. it wants Mao's Little Red Book and associated chanting of "Correct Thought" etc back. Not much chance of that. The university manglements will hold on ferociously.

Ah but Xi Xinping, as well as being made leader for as long as he pleases, has also been granted the highest of accolades. In Party ideology he has given us Xi Xinping Thought. Only Mao has an official canon of Thought. Poor Deng Xiaoping only has the rather pathetic Theory - despite being a rather more effective government leader than either of them - admittedly not a nice one...

    'Tis the Silly Season

    even in Asia apparently.

Dear Santa could you please arrange for the training of the Xi compliant PC AI writing assistant to include lashings of A.A.Milne (and Benjamin Hoff for good measure.)

Love to see Cottleston Pie in a PRC bureaucrat's fawning Xi supplication. :)

I imagine one would need to learn to whistle if one didn't want to be classified as a fish.

I suppose providing a chatbot makes good sense. You wouldn't want people thingking for themselves, would you?

This is a no brainer. AI already invents stuff as it goes along. Political correctness is asking AI to do what it does best.

Marmalade does not cure Covid 19 but it's jolly tasty and assists a Spanish town's economy.

How much more Chinese do you need?

I'd love to know what an AI makes of the above - answers on a postcard please to the usual address!

    Gödel's completeness theorem

If a Chinese LLM created to produce Politically Correct documents is good enough to create Politically Correct forms of all documents,

Then creating a document that describes Universal Human Rights, Press Freedoms, Rule of Law, Democratic Government, Racial and Cultural Inclusiveness, Gender and Sexuality Equality, and all the rest of those similar concerns and then feeding it into the LLM should result in a Politically Correct representation of those ides.

Oh, what a time to be alive.

The Threat of Open Source Intelligence

My (mis-) interpretation of the first paragraph was that the Chinese government feared OSI would inform the Chinese citizenry of the truth of what their government is doing, vs fearing the rest of the world finding economic and political information leaking out of China via OSI.
