back to article Pakistan's tech lobby warns that slow internet is strangling IT industry

Pakistan's IT Industry Association (P@SHA) – the nation's sole tech biz lobby group – has warned that government policy could lead to business closures and financial losses among its constituents, and damage the nation's IT exports. P@SHA's main beef is with a slowing of internet access speeds, and government-imposed service …

Good. Anything that keeps 5-10 dollar an hour "programmers" (and I use the term loosely) off the market is a good thing for the REAL programmers that were recently laid off.

Because you're bothered by pakistani programmers ?

What on Earth is your work domain ?

I've lost THREE JOBS to undercutting by Indian and Pakistani "businesses" that utterly and completely botched the job and delivered absolute schite in the end that had to be redone by competent programming teams.

So, yes, I have a VERY personal bone to pick with lowballers.

I've just had the pleasure of working with an exceptional programmer in Pune. I've seen programmers in the West make an utter cockup of simple things. You can't really stereotype on the basis of neither someone's nationality or location.

THere probably aer exceptional programmers in Pune, but thats not how real science is done. You dont pick just one example and ignore the remainder.

Medicine isnt developed by looking at one patient.... i cant believe im having to explain this.

It would make more sense to direct your grievances towards your employers instead. Corporate America has been offshoring/outsourcing for decades and killing STEM in the process in favour of useless MBAs PMPs etc.

How exactly do you expect people with a poor grasp of English to understand and communicate in both directions ?

There are far too many in Australia who struggle to have a basic conversation with English speakers, its hardly a shock how crap or wrong so much software is.

Secondly Pakistan is a shithole because believe it or not they really believe in shortcuts, lying etc...on a level that is significantly better (not pretending its perfect) in the west.

      how's that WFH working out?

Everyone loves "Work From Home"...until they realize that "home" can be anywhere...or anyone.

I sympathize. I love working from home, especially when that "home" can be a sick friend or family member's house as easily as mine. But if that's all I'm willing to do, the people I'm competing with for jobs are literally all over the world.

Re: how's that WFH working out?

        That is simply untrue.

For starters most of the world is in the wrong timezone. Secondly most people in the world dont have a good grasp of English. Life is a bit more complicated than just pretending its all the same.

THe problem is not only pakistani or anywhere else 5 dollar programmers. Im in Australia and i would guestimate that over half of programmers are no better except for the fact they are paid for more than 5 dollars.

The industry is filled with people with no skills who are in charge or have jobs when they should all be flipping burgers because thats more their skill level.

Pakistan’s poor air quality is strangling people too

It’s hard to use the internet if you can’t breathe, never mind the lynch mobs looking to accuse someone of blasphemy.

Why would anyone want to employ Pakistani programmers, when the rest of Pakistan is a failed shithole because well because of Pakistanis doing what Pakistanis doo at Pakistani levels of quality and care.
