back to article Cisco combines Meraki and Catalyst into single wireless brand

Cisco, tired of designing and building two discrete sets of Wi-Fi products, has merged its Catalyst and Meraki kit under the new "Cisco Wireless" moniker. The first fruits of this strategy debuted at the company's Live conference in Australia on Tuesday, where it revealed a pair of Wi-Fi 7 access points – the CW9178 and CW9176 …

...it'll be the same cost*. We've run the numbers and you'll be no worse off. Even with the Free support.

*Please note this is based on the first years subscription and presumed that you replaced all your hardware annually and also bought the Premium support package. We reserve the right to increase prices every year with a minimum of 11 months notice of cancellation. If after 30 days of buying the product, you fail to inform us you wish not to continue your subscription, you will be automatically enrolled into a five year contract with the option to cancel upon payment of any remaining monies for the remainder of the contract.

I was wondering what other English words contained itti* and consulting the interwebs - quite a lot and oddly veering to deprecatory - but one stood out in this context viz banditti (or prairie pirate.) If your putative small print is not too far from reality then banditti might be apt.

The icon for the Jolly Rogering implied by piratical practices. ;)

      * always curious about the double 't' but I assume a single 't' would be pronounced shite+fication, or was by analogy with prettification.

      "For the included value"

Means everyone is now paying for the existing products that have single-digit users, despite the fact nobody wanted them at all.

This also means they can claim "massive growth", regardless of utility.

But what are you going to do? Buy Huawei?

Good question, who else does decent WiFi stuff?

We have used Zyxel network switches, etc, as cheap-ish, seem to work well enough, and not on Uncle Sam's naughty list, but other suggestions or advice would be welcome.

I used Ubiquiti until they sent all the telemetry back to China, even when you turned off the setting. Only after they got caught did they issue a new firmware a few months later.

Cisco may be more expensive, but the Meraki management site is very easy to use and they are reliable.

Yes, the weasel words do stand out "roughly, for included value, we are not increasing costs."

"Yes I know we're forcing you to buy two bottles of champagne and a whole iberico ham in order to allow you to buy your tin of beans and supermarket sliced bread but, I think you'll find, it works out no more expensive than if you'd have bought them all seperately"

Glad I'm sorting my Cisco EA now.

Juniper Mist stuff have a strong Wi-Fi catalogue. Some of their AP's are compatible with the Cisco Blue AP mounts.
