    Unidirectional IP respect

The export controls are going to provide all of the reasons that China will need to put an emphasis on their domestic chip making. Even in trying to ramp up their ability to make the most cutting edge devices, they can make much more simple and ubiquitous devices and dump them on the market to strip other fabs of their bread and butter businesses. There also won't be much of a reason to respect foreign patents and just go ahead and knock off other's chips even if only for their very large domestic market. A power controller used in EV's can be put in Chinese made EV's that are exported to Africa, South America and Russia where there's no push back on products that might be infringing on IP. EV's being shipped to Europe and, eventually, the US will have licensed components and cost more. Nobody in the US could get away with infringing a patent awarded to a Chinese company/person.

When you tell a fifth of the world that they can't play your fun new game, they make up their own.

And by our own rules we can't steal it back.
