What a cushy job
I wish I were hired by Apple to handle PR requests.
I could play golf all day long.
Well, if I liked golf, that is.
Apple appears to have misled the UK's Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) in a regulatory filing that attempts to downplay competition concerns, according to Open Web Advocacy (OWA). OWA, a web technology lobbying group, flagged the alleged misstatement on Wednesday in a document [PDF] filed by Apple last month in …
So Apple have been given a slap on the wrist about browser choice and have added in a section in the Safari app to allow you to change the default browser? I didn't know this was on my iPhone until I just checked and to find it within the Safari app, instead of a general browser setting, was not what I expected so it isn't as obvious as I would have thought it would need to be. However, the choice is still there. This feels to me more like a complaint that a certain brand of car didn't have airbags or rear seatbelts in 1970, even though the same model does now.
Just to add in a bit of 'whataboutary' are they also going after Microsoft? At least my Apple devices honour the settings I have set, unlike Windows which actively forces you to use Microsoft products at times (search always using Bing, Outlook links opening on Edge etc) even if they are not set as default.
Erm, no, to take your analogy, your 1970s car did have airbags and seat belt, but they were disabled, you could enable them but it was hard to find, but a complain was made in 2024 about that. They then change it so that is easier to turn ithem on now. They then say in the complaint that it easier to turn them on, look, you are wrong.
And you are saying.
Who cares about all those people that didn't turn it on and died in car crashes because of it.
