back to article Public clouds are 'dirty' about VMware's on-prem push, says Broadcom CEO Hock Tan

Broadcom CEO Hock Tan has told members of VMware's user group that public clouds are not entirely happy with his private cloud push. Speaking at a function during the VMware Explore conference yesterday, Tan told the audience the virtualization giant's mission is now "taking workloads back from the public cloud." "I already …

"all you guys are very important to the cause"

All us guys have been against using someone else's server since the beginning of this cloudy nonsense.

You're late to the party, but any help is welcome.

Fighting against a "Cloud First" strategy has been a difficult experience but nice to be proven right (again)

    Cool

This guy has super low credibility. If he was such a champion for private clouds, why is he boosting everybody's subscription prices by 2X and 3x? This is just a talking point to try to sell his product, which frankly is not aligned with the current economy.

    Bye bye VMware

Nearly finished migrating a VMware cluster to a smart new Proxmox jobbie. I'll be moving my home ESXi and VM over to PVE this weekend. I've finished moving the VMs to a second array (thank you Veeam), so I can blat the first and install Proxmox on it.

    Many more to follow.

as someone from a public cloud, we're watching through our fingers...

...as broadcom raise customer prices massively (like 8x in some cases) and customers are coming to us with a "screw VMware, we want off ASAP" attitude. This is a problem entirely of Broadcom's making and they should not be surprised. They publicly said that effectively they're gonna rinse their top customers who will take a while to migrate off whilst letting all the small customers churn off the platform, make out like bandits for a couple of years and then let the product die. It's a damn shame.

I work at a VAR. As much as I dislike Broadcoms partner strategy which treats us like nobodies it is better than what we get from three letter cloud. The book retailer cloud company doesn't like it when others succeed. They partner and when convenient cut partners out. There were going to do the same to VMware. Partner to get VµC off the ground and get customers on them. when time is right push the customers to migrate to native services. and cover this bs up with some customer centric nonsense.

hock probably saw this and thought how can i extract another $3B from customers. simple -- telling the three letter cloud to pay or to f'off. they f'off.

I have sold and growth millions of dollars of VMware in my career. this wasn't sustainable in the long run. the capitalistic rule of constant optimization means others will see what I saw. That is what $AVGO did with CA and Symantec. As an industry we need to get over it. We are now betting on other SW vendors that we vetted and Google Cloud. The latter is hugely immature but they haven't abused us after the first few wins.
