back to article Pro-Iran groups lay groundwork for 'chaos and violence' as US election meddling attempts intensify

Microsoft says Iran's efforts to influence the November US presidential election have gathered pace recently and there are signs that point toward its intent to incite violence against key figures. "Over the past several months, we have seen the emergence of significant influence activity by Iranian actors," Microsoft said. " …

"significant influence activity by Iranian actors"

Iranian actors are a mischievous lot, I'd take away their equity cards.

America has no qualms about interfering in other countries' elections, turnabout is fair play as far as I can see.

Re: They don't like it up 'em!

Can you please enlighten us all how the Iranese state-backed meddling in US elections relates to Russian elections?

Had you linked straight to the actual Time article at Internet Archive, instead of just the cover page, El Reg readers could have read an engaing short story about Yeltsin's fizzling campaign hiring couple of American spin doctors and election pros to bring Yeltsin back into the race and win the election. Did you actually read it?!

I think we need the "<-- I'm with stupid" icon in these forums as well...

America doesn't generally interfere with other countries' elections. It allows them to happen, then kills the winner if the electorate gets it wrong.

Indeed. State sponsored security organizations should be attempting to meddle in other countries elections to achieve the best outcome. That's their job. The exception being when all of the candidates are so terrible it makes no difference.

The one forever abiding difficulty to address and overcome for realisation of the many certain almighty advantages that CAPs [Competitive Advantage Pathfinders] can deliver and apply and mentor and monitor, is its guaranteed assurance when in an imagined successful defense role to NOT create further novel enemies requiring what practically immediately is recognised to be very quickly evolving and revolving self-defeating attacks against phantom terrorising ghosts hosted by national and international and internetional and extra terrestrial Defense Departments in need of such enemies to seed and feed for survival and funding.

Failing that very simple prime optimal test for attacking defense systems has one forever failing, ..... and eventually, a lot sooner than was ever thought possible, suddenly failing catastrophically.

Such is gravely to be regarded and wisely best avoided at all and any cost.

The Biggest Influence Operation is Hidden In Plain Sight

I'd guess that the combined efforts of Iran, Russia, China and whoever else is in this week's Axis of Evil don't come close to the ongoing and all encompassing influence campaign run by the Israel and its local supporters. Just this week a Democratic lawmaker who had the temerity to question what's going on in Gaza lost a primary to a very well funded pro-Israel candidate. We're supposed to accept that as normal (actually, we don't have a choice).

Re: The Biggest Influence Operation is Hidden In Plain Sight

Or maybe some voters are seeing past the propaganda. Just this week a second rabid pro-terrorist anti-semite politician lost a primary to a more moderate candidate.

The absolute alternative real and virtual truths in that very specific matter, AC, is the Washington Swamp is doing such a bullshit job of subverting the democratic process in the land of the slave and the home of the naive.

Iran ought to feel very friendly towards the Republicans. Both are keen on theocracies, neither has much time for democracy and Reagan was very happy to arm Iran.

Kamala backer here but I'm a little put off that the author chose to quote the allegedly Democraticish Nio Thinker but not the allegedly Republicanesque Savannah Time. I think it's a bad idea to give a platform to either source, but it seems exceptionally bad to pick just one.

Anyway I would love to read an interview with the porn actors/actresses for whom these sites were named.
