back to article Intel finally has a new GPU – for cars

Intel has finally got around to launching a new GPU – except it's a reskin of a graphics processor already on the market, and this time targeted at the automotive industry. Termed the A760A, the discrete or dedicated graphics chip is the first the x86 giant has ever-launched for cars, at least in recent memory. Intel announced …

    > The A760A is definitely faster than the integrated Vega graphics AMD pairs with its Ryzen V2000A APUs, which are based on the same Renoir silicon used in 2020's Ryzen 4000 series.

Not much bragging rights from comparing to the performance of a 4 year old chip.

For me, my car would be better off just driving efficiently. I really don't want to be seeing 3D graphics anything on my dashboard thank you very much.

You don't, your passengers probably do want to see 3D graphics something on the dahsboard.

HAving said that, when I first read the headline and brief, I tought this module was to be used for advanced functions like collision avoidance, lane detection lidar data processing and such, not to "talk to the car and paint 3D on the dash"...

I'm quite confident mine do not.

Oh come now, imagine your heads-up display being the Pipe Screensaver.

      Wouldn't that be . . . very distracting ?

Honestly, the more I read about all the bullshit they're trying to stuff into cars these days, the more I intend to keep my good ol' diesel running for as long as possible.

At least my car does what I want it to do.

      And it doesn't talk back.

Most modern electric cars seem to be going this way. So many bells and whistles that I just cannot stand.

I can see that there may be a section of the populous that find these shiny things enticing, but I do wonder how much of the slow down in electric vehicle buying is down to just how unappealing they are to a lot of people in this regard (obviously behind high price, distance anxiety, battery life, etc...).

    Gosh, that sounds like fun.

    Hello range anxiety?

Given the difference in power consumption between AMD and Intel for the same performance you'd think these chips would be a hard sell as they eat more power.

It's probably not much compared to the amount of juice the motors and battery cooling need, but every bit helps.
