back to article Etched looks to challenge Nvidia with an ASIC purpose-built for transformer models

Following ChatGPT's debut in late 2022, GPUs – Nvidia's in particular – have become synonymous with generative AI. However, given the scale at which AI is now being deployed, some have questioned whether an application-specific approach to transformer models – the fundamental architecture on which large language and diffusion …

Primary Venture Partners and Positive Sum Ventures

    Who funds these operations ?

I checked out PVP's web site. All of their "partners" are very young when you're talking funding in billions. So I take it they're not the ones with the money, they just distribute it.

So who gives them the money ?

VCs who hear "AI" and "beat Nvidia" then dream about getting in on the ground floor on something that gets valued like Nvidia someday. Even if they think it has less than a 1% chance of living up to the claims they're making, it might be a worthwhile bet for them if they feel that 1% chance would equal a 1000x gain in their stake.

Who funds these operations ? .... So who gives them the money ? .... Pascal Monett

The silent main partner is the Federal Reserve and its dollar fiat currency fractional reserve lending racket fronting a not so stealthy quantitative easing operation supplying speculative wealth imagined available as liquid credit tomorrow as a solid prime proven valuable asset delivering worth and profit for spending today.

It's a ponzi money churn operation the SWIFT banking type system is trapped into vitally supporting and exponentially expanding in order to try to prevent the whole system from collapsing/exploding/imploding ....... which it is quickly bound to do whenever the to be future taxed and marketed as extremely valuable assets are discovered by both investors and the more general public alike to be just really slick vapourware compounding and extending the inevitable great pain/oppressive depressive recessionary shock to be suffered in the Great NEUKlearer World Order Reset with AI [Alien Interventions] delivering a Cogent and Cohesive and Comprehensive Universal Style of Engaging Lead for Greater IntelAIgent Games Plays.

And do you think fighting against the inevitable is the right thing to do .......or do you recognise it as the last desperate moronic act of a dying failed former wannabe star?

    Still, sounds good

Lots of doubt but lots of promise here, for as well all know customized hardware will beat even 'optimized' software every time. I hope they do this, it junctions in nicely with the other El Reg story about application-specific AI hardware (FPGA) versus power-hungry GPU's.

Of course this also begs the other analysis...how "useful" will these 'AI-PC's' if they'll be considered 'antique' and 'bog slow' if the FPGA / ASIC model takes off? :p It's a smiley because I lovingly await the crash and burn heehee
