Tesla has issued two more physical Cybertruck recalls, bringing the total number of hardware issues the electric-car maker has had to fix on the troubled vehicle to three in as many months. This latest pair of recalls quietly appeared on the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's (NHTSA) website last week, and are …

"The terminology is outdated & inaccurate. This is a tiny over-the-air software update." - Musk

Let's see how an OTA update fixes windscreen wipers and a car which is falling apart at the seams.

    No? "Recall" it is then.

Wow - you really have a bee in your bonnet.

This is pretty clearly a recall.

But is it a recall when there is no recall?

Re: "The terminology is outdated & inaccurate. This is a tiny over-the-air software update." - Musk

Yes. It's just Musk arguing semantics to try and claim there is nothing really wrong when in fact the recall in December was a software defect which affected over 2 million cars putting their drivers at risk.

Re: "The terminology is outdated & inaccurate. This is a tiny over-the-air software update." - Musk

Drivers are always at risk, the vast majority of that risk comes from drivers.

Re: "The terminology is outdated & inaccurate. This is a tiny over-the-air software update." - Musk

I can't actually figure out what the "December" recall was, unless it was the "Drivers cause risk by not paying attention", which is the fundamental issue with basically every road traffic incident.

The OTA update monitors the local weather report and diverts the vehicle to the nearest underground carpark or underpass at the merest hint of a possible rain drop

It is scary when you compare it to the safety recall for my car: "The rear child lock instructions in the manual are incorrect and are documented as the reverse of actual function" recall is to have a sticker put into the manual to correct the typo.

My Subaru got recalled for a faulty driver side airbag - then recalled a couple of years later to replace the replacement.

Then a separate replacement for the passenger side airbag - this wasn't urgent since the mitigation was: don't use passenger seat.

      1. Like a badger

        Re: It's not a Recall

Good quality double sided tape is routinely used by most manufacturers for some aspects of trim fitment, I don't see any big deal if it's of the correct standard, and the use is correct. Of course, you'd need a very special grade of tape to secure a load liner for a redneckmobile that'll be out all day in the sun.

On a Cybertruck at least. I mean isn't the advice not to drive them in the rain as it damages the bodywork and no rain/no need of wipers!

Incel Camino, when Silicon Valley builds a car

It's funny how much of Silicon Valley you can see in Tesla, despite Musk cosplaying as a Texan nowadays.

Tesla displays so many typical Silicon Valley modus operandi:

    • Fake it till you make it
    • We have no experience in this sector and that's why we believe we are best positioned to disrupt it
    • Over promise, under deliver
    • Prioritizing the C-suite and investors over customers and treating the latter as marks in a con-game
    • Spending a fortune on hiring highly talented people to do the actual work but the CEO is the only one allowed to take the credit.

Re: Incel Camino, when Silicon Valley builds a car

As opposed to the traditional approach where the Fuhrer starts a pyramid scheme to fund building a car, you steal the design from the Jewish engineer, get promoted to SS major, use slave labor to build them and then half a century later you lie about emissions.
