back to article GenAI dominates the narrative in ERP, but what is it good for?

With vendors obsessed with adding generative AI to everything, does it really have a place in ERP software? It's very early days, say analysts at Forrester. The leading ERP vendors have stapled GenAI to their product portfolios in the last year. German software giant SAP has promised to sort and contextualize data from …

and what happens if you don't want or trust AI products / vendors

too many stories like the maccy D one where AI has had to be pulled as not fit for purpose as putting bacon on ice-cream and adding 100's of chicken nuggets to orders :), google recommending people eat glue (could be one way to stop politicians spouting BS), M$ co-pilot screenshot system, the list goes on

i have notice a definite reduction in accuracy of search results from google, bing etc since AI has been added

currently the new open AI deal with apple is not hitting the EU just yet but i will be steering clear of IOS18 for now until the dust settle, or go and dust off my old nokia 6310i :)

If they struggle to understand where it fits in how on earth can they be excited about AI's potential to "drive efficiency and improve results,"?

I suppose it must be the result of taking too much caffeine on board whilst listening to sales presentations.

It's more to do with boosting the stock price. Investors have gone gaga for anything with AI. Similar to the late 90s when everyone prefixed their offerings with 'e', then 'i'.

does it really have a place in ERP software?

    Let's see :

Generative AI : you put a load of numbers in and some numbers come out, with no clue as to how they were arrived at.

SAP ERP : you put a load of numbers in and some numbers come out, with no clue as to how they were arrived at.

Yes, I can see the potential for a tie-up here!

    Seriously...?

It's nearly effin impossible to get an ERP system to actually work, so sticking more shite on the top of it isn't going to help is it.

      Re: Seriously...?

Yeah most ERP projects seem to fail even with human intelligence driving them so I can’t see how gen AI will help

Does it have a place in ERP?

I have once again confused whatever ERP the article refers to with Erotic RolePlay, which genai is most definitely good at and where even the most bizarre hallucination is welcome.
