back to article Microsoft resumes rollout of Windows 11 24H2 to Insiders

And just like that, Windows 11 24H2 is back. After the Windows Insider program took a hiatus from the rollout for reasons that had absolutely nothing to do with the calamitous debut of Recall, Microsoft has quietly resumed the flow with build 26100.863. The announcement was made on June 15 as another update to the May 22 post …

Make The Assistant Behave More Like An App Pinned To The Taskbar

Microsoft said: "This gives you the benefits of a typical app experience. For example, you can do things like resize, move, and snap the window."

But not the option to uninstall it if it's not required? Not even under add/remove features? (Assuming that option is still present, buried in a menu somewhere.)

Re: Make The Assistant Behave More Like An App Pinned To The Taskbar

There's an option to hide it from the taskbar (for the moment). Having the ability to uninstall it would imply that it is your computer. Okay you bought the hardware but it has Windows installed, which means it is Microsoft's computer, which they are allowing you to use. Not only is it Microsoft's computer but they are experts at knowing the best way to use a computer. The expensive Microsoft focus groups have decided the best place for the task bar and how the Start Menu should work. We should be grateful that Microsoft have done the research, so we don't have to worry about making our own decisions.

I made the mistake of searching for Firefox using Edge the other day. The first search result filling the top of the screen says "There's no need to download a new web browser". What a relief that was. Thank you Microsoft for preventing me from wasting time and effort.

TL;DR - bend over and take it.

Now imagine what would happen if you did a search for "Linux Mint". Perhaps it would have self-destructed the PC.

    That's a relief!...

      Yet...

Tomorrow, the message might well be ""Windows 11, version 24H2 is available FOR ALL PC's including those running W7, W8.0,. W8.1 and W10."

In the background, MS is downloading it ready to take over the next time you head for the loo.

Just say no to MS and its tomfoolery.

"Users were quick to demonstrate that was incorrect"

It is frankly appalling that a multi-billion dollar behemoth like Borkzilla can't be arsed to publish something correct about its own products.

I cannot imagine that the programmers at Redmond can't tell their elbow from their knee, so who is the idiot that spouts that kind of bullshit and why are they not fired when their stupidity is brought under public scrutiny ?

I'm convinced that the programmers know what what they are coding (yes, I might be overly optimistic there, but still - programmers are not responsible for MBA stupidity). Somebody should ask them what their newfangled whatsamacallit can run on before spouting bullshit about it.

In meetings, lots of managers ask a stupid question, dumb looks ensue from all seated the table, and someone says "sure but... " and it's green-lighted anyway. WTF* I sat at that table more times than I care to remember. I remember a few "stupid question that becomes a project" that failed too.

"to do things that we never dreamed possible"

    What a load of shite!

Back in the day hardware/software 'improvements' fairly often lived up to their name, but this really does look like a niche solution being foisted on everyone for the sake of... filthy lucre.

Colour me cynical, but as far as I am concerned MS have jumped the shark as in any way being a credible software vendor.

I wouldn't touch their shit if it was free, or even if they paid me.

MS have created a toxic marketing wasteland—parasitising those who are IT illiterate, or so thoroughly invested that 'Stockholm Syndrome' barely begins to describe their level of dependence.

Microsoft resumes rollout of Windows 11 24H2 to Insiders

Thank goodness I wised up to MS with the arrival of Win 10 in 2016 and decided nope - not for me. I am not a personal data giver to MS or Google, FB etc. I jumped to Linux, have a few tumbles etc but nothing to dramatic and finally settled on a distro that suited me in 2020 (POP-OS) and haven't looked back since but have had a good chuckle at the current state of Windows AI debacle.

  7. Yukkuri

Only a very temporary pause, it will still be coming. They're clearly in desperate need for a problem that "AI PCs" can solve so they can drive new PC sales (and license sales with it) and this is the only thing they could come up with, so it is going to be happening.

    1. navarac Silver badge

Apart from AI/Copilot/Recall, Microsoft have NOTHING to provide marketing hype to flog Windows anymore. They'll be crying their eyes out because Recall has been temporarily recalled!

How about this Nadella. Fix bugs and get some consistency to the OS, with a decent UI that doesn't hide the menus/options, and doesn't act as an advertising/scamming vehicle. In other words, go back to Windows 7 and start again. Put the stupid mindless marketing department back in their box.

Having said that, they never will, and I am so happy to be using "another OS (not Mac)"!

    Dumpster fire

Nothing brings more joy to an engineers heart than having the tech press associate a dumpster fire picture with your new product, release or feature.
