back to article Four more US states pile on Apple as DoJ turns up antitrust heat

Four more US states have jumped on the Department of Justice's (DoJ) antitrust lawsuit against Apple. The addition of Indiana, Massachusetts, Nevada, and Washington brings the total count of US states (plus Washington DC) in the suit to 20, the DoJ said. The lawsuit alleges Apple violated part of the Sherman Antitrust Act and …

    I'm not convinced

The apps named are easily replaced with similar functionality using other apps so if interoperability is desired, people can get something else. For financial applications, Apple may not want to give developers the API's they'd need to build software on iOS for security reasons. Especially if it would mean they'd have to complete re-write their own programs or risk exposing vulns.

I've been using a Mac since 1985 but I'm not subscribing to anything iOS. I have never signed up with Google for the Play Store and can find software in other places to load on my de-googled phone. I have long since deleted my Gmail account.

If people want to swim in the iOS pool, they can accept that not every piece of software is going to interoperate with every other offering on another system. Should Toyota be taken to court for their transmissions not being able to be fit into a Honda or a Ford vehicle? I am not aware that I can download all of my apps and data from one car, sell the car, buy a new car and restore all of that data with the push of a button. It's a much bigger purchase, so why not? They might also want me to create a whole new subscription for the tracking and spying functions (On Star, etc) and not give me any credit for the remaining time on my subscription with the old car. Even Elon told people on the last earnings call an A-holeish "No" when asked about transferring FSD in any direction.

There are plenty of automobile manufactures but phone platforms are a duopoly.

Automobiles have a robust parts market so you have a choice outside the original manufacturers parts.

I've never seen a notification that reads:

"We were unable to verify you installed genuine Toyota brakes. We have disabled certain functionality to protect your Toyota vehicle"

False comparisons.... This would be like if Toyota made their cars so you had to buy Toyota petrol, Toyota tires, Toyota screenwash etc. The cup holders would only fit Toyota patented cups and the wheelnuts would need a patented Toyota tool. Getting the idea now?

    Innovation is not a monopoly!

Sure, let's just turn iOS into the wild west of danger that Android is!

I swear, the Marxist in the west will not be satisfied until the masses are riding horse carts and writing letters again.
