back to article No, an AI bot isn't running for mayor of Cheyenne, Wyoming

Officials in Wyoming are trying to figure out how to respond to an application to run for mayor of the City of Cheyenne that comes with the promise of AI-assisted governance. The Wyoming Tribune Eagle asks, "Can voters elect an AI for mayor?" And Wyoming Secretary of State Chuck Gray on Monday wrote to the City Clerk of …

In the UK general election, a YouTuber has submitted paperwork to stand in 11 different constituencies... except he can't and police are investigating

Far better to simply put a bucket on your head or dress up in an Elmo costume...

Yeah, mine is one of them.

The BBC quotes him as "We attempted to run ... in multiple places across the country and somehow we managed to make it happen"; somehow — somehow! — he managed to fill in some paperwork, including false statements, eleven different times. What an incredible feat. I must like and subscribe immediately.

Though one of the other independent candidates is a hardcore anti-vaxxer. So he's still not bottom of the heap.

Ergo, someone who knows little more than which socket to plug a keyboard into, decided to embellish his application by (hoping to) befuddle the other applicants.

"I'm the one running for mayor"

Of course, you want the check at the end of the month. But why make it seem that an AI is running then ?

Your email address is particularly poorly chosen, unless you actually want people to think that an AI is in the running.

But then you can't complain if you're rejected on that basis.

Elections are not an area for jokes or media stunts. They are serious business.

If only politicians took them seriously . . .

H'Angus the Monkey would beg to differ

Elected 3 times as Mayor of Hartlepool, snd despite being the 'joke candidate', he actually made a good job of it

Not as dumb as it sounds

My initial reaction was WTF, but a second or two after I realized where this is happening, and from having read countless articles here about politicians I’m of the opinion that it can’t be any worse, can it?

This election came 4 years too late, otherwise their campaign slogan could have been:

    VIC ‘20

Victor has overly anthropomorphized his AI

By calling it VIC after his own name, but what really wigs me out Victor's constant use of the pronoun "he" instead of "it" for VIC.
