back to article Nvidia execs cash out shares as GPU giant skyrockets

Nvidia executives are cashing in on their shares, meaning it isn't just investors that are reaping the rewards of its soaring stock value. The California-based GPU giant saw its market capitalization swell to $3.012 trillion last week, putting it briefly ahead of Apple and second only to Microsoft as the world's most valuable …

analysts are expecting the split to boost Nvidia's stock in future.

I'm sorry, those are analysts that should be fired. Now that people can buy fractional shares, stock splits hardly have any importance whatsoever apart from marketing purposes. It's true that stock splits happen to companies that are doing well — their stock has gone up and the share price is now expensive — but saying the split boosts the stock is like saying windmills create wind.

You're overlooking one very important thing

The Dow is price weighed, so they wouldn't add NVDA at >$1000 share, but there is a lot of speculation that after the split they will now that it has been split 10 ways.

If NVDA is added to the DOW, then every Dow index fund out there has to buy Nvidia, and that may materially boost the price. Not as much as it would have in the old days, since the S&P 500 has become more and more popular relative to the Dow for index funds over the years.

    It's all about power...

...And if your expensive hardware needs more power than your company can buy there is little point in buying it unless you become your own power company as well. AI and Cloud providers will find there is little difference between their compute clusters in multi-acre buildings and a young teen living in a one room apartment trying to play games and run the AC at the same time. Circuit breakers will trip and things will fall down.

This will drive up the cost of generating you own power and very soon the additional cost will pop the AI bubble. Then only the richest of the rich will be able to use AI at scale.

    This is because:

1.) No hardware manufacturers are focused on selling billions of efficient co-processors instead of hundreds of thousands of inefficient co-processors. Nvidia has a command line utility to mange their GPU's called nvidia-smi and you in most cases you can lower the maximum Watts pulled by the card by using the -pl= switch. So if your card pulls 200W by default and you use nvidia-smi -pl=150 you lower you power consumption by 25% and only lose about 10% performance. If they designed the GPU's to fit into a lower power profile they would sell more because A.) the would be cheaper to make and B.) companies could use more at the same time.

2.) The AI Rush is just like the Gold Rush. In San Fransisco during the Gold Rush of the mid-1800's people were paying $1 per egg. That price wasn't seen again in the US for about 175 years!

It makes me glad I never invested in tulips.

lets see what QUALCOMM does.. and the OSS community, im usign ChatGpt wieslawsoltes on github to make small agents or ask chatgpt to code them from scratch with minimal UI using Avalonia, so i can drive any OS from on AI. hopefully. at least for dictation and some navigation. a dynamic mic helps. i cant use al these different UIs anymore ill bite the bullet and make my own. hopeful if my calls and puts bets work i can get help..

Meta , OpenAi , and MSFT fund the ways to get around the cuda moat.

mfst reported traing took down a city grid, and they had to distribute it.

Low suply, high demand say from Elon musk who's ai is barely used,Grok?

bought ridiculous amounts of NVIDIA H100 chips for each at 15 to 25k .

We could have a moon base for just a sliver of the Trillions given to NVIDIA market cap , and train AIs on solar abundant power on the Lunar south pole wiht superconducting ambient conditions for free, theoretically. its depressing. a herd giving a trillion dollars when the our species is the last apex predator, ecosystem at a tipping point, and our technology still does not have an off planet backup, and the moon is 2days away!!

that article above was before everyone wants an ARM chip , laptops replaced towers, but my laptop is too hot to touch.

Apple doesn't have a touch screen they want you to have a ipad and a macbook air so Surfaces and 20 others have a green field.. im temped to get one jut because its summer and i dont' have air-conditioning.

So developer facing, and faster with batter life 6 -16 hours not 1 hours, is enough to immediately change, imo.. with people workin mostly offsite now.

they have this huge opportunity. electricity and isn't getting cheaper and it boils the planet.. Latency, hotword training, DSPs being programmed, reversible fixed point solvers, and such, i want much of my AI local and custom, i cant use copilot, wont. So if more developers /researchers have this QUALCOMM DSP array and FPGA and NLP and not use the graphics card for anything but graphics, and

chat gpt helps me implement OSS based custom chatgents each with a prompt, .. I used Voice Assess and then ChatGPt to fix it. instead of RAG..but ill try to learn to run it locally. im mostly want low latency on the voice to text and OCS to drive my pc hands free.

this is QUALCOMMS pitch but its a clusterfk

NVIDIA employees are also 3% of the holders. they are very rich and lazy now.

This is standard for any non-doofus Executive

Note how Bill Gates did much the same with his MSFT shares after their many splits as part of a coordinated wealth diversification plan. You need to think of stocks in context of waves and NVDA has all the makings of a multi-wave stock and company. We look at AI - but seem to forget the next generation products will involve an array of acceleration production, integration with the network, especially in the Data Center and NVDA is on top of all of this initiatives. You don't just sit there with a potential cash cow, you take money off the table and invest in other areas.
