back to article Qualcomm wants to target all ‘all form factors’ with SoCs that power Copilot+ PCs

Qualcomm CEO Cristiano Amon has used his keynote at Taiwan’s Computex tech conference to signal he wants to tackle more of the PC market. In case you came in late, a couple of weeks back Qualcomm’s long-promised Snapdragon X Elite and X Plus Arm-compatible system-on-chips (SoCs) emerged in “Copilot+ PCs", a moniker Microsoft …

not promising when they have to tie success to software leveraging a small onboard NPU

Did I read that correctly, that THIS attempt to get Windows usable on an ARM processor relies on content creation software which also leverages AI via onboard NPU capabilities?

So they are betting against Nvidia GPUs hung off of AMD or Intel CPUs with Qualcomm's last attempt under their exclusive deal with Microsoft.

What could possibly go wrong with that game plan.

    Industrial settings

"industrial settings – just the sort of environment where the energy-sipping Arm architecture that powers the Elite X platform thrives."

Umm, I beg to differ. Most industrial systems are plugged in and the power draw of the PC is just noise when compared with what it is controlling or monitoring. A much more important concern is "Will I be able to source a compatible replacement in 10 years time, or 20?", since that's the expected life of the kit it is attached to.

Arm CEO declares his architecture is now the de facto Windows standard

Reading that tribute, one could be forgiven for thinking it was the only standard.

Rene Haas 00:24:15: “ARM has become the de facto choice for every major operating system in the world, Windows, Android, Chrome, iOS, Linux, Linux for the auto, Linux for the data center”
