back to article BreachForums returns just weeks after FBI-led takedown

BreachForums is back online just weeks after the notorious dark-web marketplace for stolen data was seized by law enforcement. Online threat hunters spotted the bazaar's resurgence, now seemingly under the control of ShinyHunters - one of the earlier BreachForums admins. The marketplace opened for registration on Tuesday. Hahaha wow

It appears the original owners got in contact with NiceNIC and asked for the accounts back and to disable the FBI accounts.

Reading the HackRead article is hilarious. There's an email at the bottom from the FBI asking for their access back, they never got it back. Its pretty pitiful in its reading. Defeating the FBI sounds easy, just ask.

This time, sure. Personally, I'd be nervous about operating a criminal-cozening registrar in Hong Kong. That's the sort of thing that one day the Chinese government might decide deserves some re-education.

You're assuming the Chinese government isn't sponsoring the attacks.

        (Hint: THEY ARE.)

Really, I never would have guessed. Oh, look, they're online again...

I guess its true that they do have law enforcement personel on their payroll.

    Better Backups

It's ironic that the crims have a more resilient operation than most of their corporate ransomware victims.

Maybe it's not a wholly bad thing...

... if NiceNIC are acting neutral (haven't read the article yet).

Just because the FBI say they want something doesn't mean they should always automatically get it.

I presume, if NiceNIC could tell them to do one, then they hadn't, legally speaking, joined all the dots. Like getting an actual court injunction in NiceNIC's jurisdiction? Just guessing.

    Two things come to mind.

    1. Will the crims "trust" the new owners not get pwned as well? Are they hpoping it's 3rd time lucky?

    2. Is it a double bluff and the FBI are still running it and catching more fish?

    FAIL

    Time to ban paying!

They ONLY way ransomware ends is when governments criminalize paying ransom.

If they pay, the CEO goes to prison. The payments will stop, and the ransomware will stop very quickly after that.

“backup servers and domains which can be operationalized”

He certainly sounds like ex-law enforcement. I think the correct verb would be “switchedonelated”.
