Calling them script kiddies is a huge stretch. If they're the script kiddies, what do you call the security professionals that shamelessly use scripts and programs they didn't create to automate the vast majority of what they do (even the white hat hackers)? The script kiddie moniker has been evolved into a professional way to insult criminals simply because "they're bad". Let's not forget why Cybersecurity is a thing: because of black and grey hats that forced companies to care about their security.
script kiddies are short term attackers to get hooker or drugs. Security professionals are in for the long game to protect (your money in your bank, your health care info, your cars auto start). And we don't look over our back for cops, or mob hitmen - ever. Script kiddies, everyone wants to burn one or two on a stick.
