    I think it would be funny if one of the high million dollar winners hired a bunch of Soldier of Fortune types to track them down and do a manual delete on the data - by eliminating them.

    Why do they need so much data anyway?

    You lose, you toss the ticket.

    You win, you get paid on the spot.

    You win big, you fill in forms, etc.

    Surely only big winners provide details.

      Most lottery's these days will have online portals so you can buy tickets, check winnings, see your history etc. That will require personal information, including proof of age, payment methods/details etc.

        Gambling winnings aren't income. Even people who run businesses based on gambling have argued that point and won. For one thing, that's why the Museum of Old and New Art (Hobart) exists.

          Unfortunately, in the US winnings are treated as taxable income.
