Its not really about the fee, more about the DRM.

No serious client will purchase a solution where the lifespan of it working is dictated by Apple's DRM servers. It will keep Apple's tablet as a consumer play thing whilst things like hospitals will go for a mishmash of random Android-based hardware.

You're seriously suggesting anyone chooses Android tablets because they think they will have a LONGER support life than iPads? You live in upside world, I guess!

Apple's product life cycles are longer than corporate depreciation cycles, which is all they care about. They're not trying to use tablets for 10 years.

Apple is still providing security updates for iPads as old as the second gen Air released in 2014. Can you point to a single Android tablet from 2014 that's still getting updates?

Working != Updates

For most people, working is more important than whether it still gets updates.

If you wake up one morning and your tablet won't run the app you need, you will be far more annoyed than if you wake up and find that the supplier isn't updating it anymore.

In fact, many users would be happy that the supplier has stopped fiddling, because that means they won't change stuff for no reason or break things.

If you have secrets to keep, I'd recommend not using either because you have one heck of a security hole every time your device phones home for an OS/app update.

Depends on who it is calling. A shop which takes care of what is made available to upload or one that just says 'gimme the money and all your personal details' - easy choice.

Yes, and it's also about compliance - cyber insurance policies normally specifically state that software must be in-support and kept patched.
