back to article Apple's pleas ineffective: iPadOS on EU's gatekeeper list

The European Commission just brought months of legal wrangling to an end with a decision to add Apple's iPadOS to the Digital Markets Act's list of gatekeepers.  The Commission said today that iPadOS (Apple split its iPhone and iPad iOS derivatives in late 2019) had been added to the existing register of DMA gatekeepers, and …

How do you like them Apples?

That's what you get for throwing tantrum after tantrum over opening up the App store, PWAs, and Spotify.

Did Cook & Co think that they would be making friends by acting in the way they did?

It seems like these days people look at Trump and Xitler and think their behavior is something to emulate. Quite why they think it's a good idea when they see all the legal troubles stacking up for both idjits is beyond me, and I guess why I wouldn't make for a good top executive.

Doesn't Apple have a higher market share in fondleslabs than anyone else in any other computing segment?

At least if you count slabs that actually get used. I know the numbers suggest that they have something like a 45% market share, but I've never really seen any of them outside of a shop shelf display.

Much as I love to criticise iPadOS, and believe me, I most certainly do criticise it; it is much more capable than Android (on tablets), and much more usable than Windows 11 (on tablets).

I still have a very long wish-list of desired improvements though, starting with the basics like a calculator app.

Was watching an episode of Loudermilk the other night and it starts off with some guy explaining how the earth spins at 1K mph, and while it's doing that, it's also orbiting the sun at like 2m mph, and then the solar system is orbiting around the milky way galaxy at 300m mph, and the milky way galaxy is cruising through the universe at like 2bn mph* and that's why he couldn't walk straight during a sobriety test issued by a cop who pulled him over. And the cop is just standing there with this, "are you done yet" look on his face.

Somehow this article reminded me of that.

    Oh wait…”
