back to article Raspberry Pi adds more memory to the Compute Module 4S

New memory variants were this week launched for the Raspberry Pi Compute Module family. Customers can now specify a 4S with 2GB, 4GB, and 8GB, as well as the original 1GB version. The Compute Module 4S turned up earlier this year and was aimed squarely at industrial users. The Compute Module 4 appeared in 2020 with a changed …

Am I reading an article from 2020?

My electric toothbrush has 8GB RAM.

      I don't believe you.

Deployment roles for compute modules often don't need more than 1GB, 8GB will be very generous in this kind of work.

"My electric toothbrush has 8GB RAM."

Sadly that is probably true. :(

The cheaper Brauns that I have broken open don't have anything that clever. The reciprocating action appears purely electro mechanical. The timer is likely either an analogue 2 minute countdown timer or a simple digital counter that counts the brush's reciprocations ~ strokes.

The internal NiMH battery charge controller is likely the cleverest part of the electronics.

The non replaceable battery is the most irritating aspect of these devices as it always ceases to hold charge ages before anything else wears out.

The latest and greatest probably have Li batteries which require clever charging and a per user profile selected by the brush head, wifi to stream the teeth being brushed to your dental practitioner, and a large dollop of AI for that Superior In-Mouth Experience™.

Re: "My electric toothbrush has 8GB RAM."

My Oral-B has Bluetooth, and an app with a profile for each person (who shares their toothbrush anyway?). I assume it also tracks which orifice it was last inserted into.... and gives you a jolly good spanking if it is the wrong one (OK that's a unique selling point). Have a pint on the Sirius Cybernetics Corporation .... Share and Enjoy!

p.s. I'm sure the objective here is to encourage you to brush longer so the head wears out quicker and you have to buy a new one (smile)

Hopefully by the time you're done you'll have a white tooth

Not the brush head, but the main, sometimes quite expensive body/handle bit. Although with all that computing power I'd hope it's "clever" enough to identify the user by the head that has just been fitted ;-)

    8gb ram?

If apple didn't need anymore than that, why would a pi?
