back to article Fujitsu's 30-year-old UK customs system just keeps hanging on

The UK's tax collector has named the date for migrating from a 30-year-old customs IT system for the fifth time in as many years after planning its replacement for more than a decade. In a missive published last week, His Majesty's Revenue & Customs (HMRC) said businesses using the aging Customs Handling of Import and Export …

"In the time since it was first launched, CHIEF has seen off seven prime ministers. If it clings on for a few more months, and with a general election looming, it might just see off an eighth."

You forgot the lettuce that outlasted the lemon Liz Truss.

I'm sure I can find an aubergine in my fridge that's been in there longer than him in that case.

Another of the last systems standing using IDMS(X) retires gracefully long after its planned life expectancy.

"It's done, why don't you use it?"

I've seen a couple recent "tech modernizations" supposedly consisting of reimplementing something in a newer language or whatever.

Except they don't bother to write 50% of the features of the old system because they're "too hard" or "not used" or "that's not funded" or "we ran out of time"

Then when the users don't transition to the new system because it doesn't do what they need it to do, they're all shocked and butt-hurt.

Anon b/c I'm in the middle of one of these shitfests.

The true measure of a failed UK Government IT project : how many PMs it manages to outlast.

Is this the same Fujitsu that claimed the Post Office software worked fine? The same Fujitsu who modified records to cover their asses, then lied about it? That Fujitsu?
