I wonder how many of these appliances have services behind them which when they're hacked will result in the owners saying "We are the victims of a sophisticated attack"?

In their defense, they did immediately send out a warning to registered users.

We patched them pretty much immediately because there were rumours about exploits being out in the wild, and you just don't gamble with that.
