back to article LinkedIn's turn to fall over: Outage hits thinkfluencer hub

If you can't get into LinkedIn at the moment, you're not alone: The social network is unavailable due to an unexplained outage. Visit the dotcom right now, and you'll be greeted not with stunning insights from thinkfluencers but a message saying: "An error has occurred." The site stopped working shortly before 1300 PT (2100 …

    Considering it's Microsoft....

Any bets on whether or not it's something as banal as expired certs?

It's east to fail at scale

And it's good to know after all these years that it's probably still DNS...

Re: It's east to fail at scale

I use the rule of thumb that it's always DNS, except when it isn't. So far so good.

    "An error has occurred."

Surely the house style is "Something went wrong".

Don't forget, "Temporarily down for maintenance" to make it sound like it's not a failure, but instead absolutely terrible service scheduling.

What is the negative effect ?

LinkedIn going down is surely a positive, most of what I have seen is either utter nonsense or just plain old brown nosing.

It appears to be a place where pretentious people go in the hope that some other pretentious person takes notice of them.

"We're sorry to see you go"

Wanted to access a resource which asked for a linkedin account.

    So created one... what rubbish.

Anyway appears the resource wasn't satisfied with the free account. Sod'm!

Cancelled linkedin. A wasted half hour. :(

《You may reactivate your account within 14 days from today by signing back in》

I don't imagine the need could arise this side of eternity.

What really surprises is that anyone noticed that it had disappeared from the net.

"If you hit refresh a few times..."

Sorry, but with my IT hat on, I hate you. The website is down, so let's pound it senselessly until it comes back up...

Did it fall over from all those development [bad] advises that have been popping up lately?

    "thinkfluencer"

Many of those on linkedin like to think of themselves as influencers, whereas they're all pretty much just contributors to the noise background. Real influencers are identified by the fact of actually having changed something, not just by rabbiting on about it (regardles of how many "likes" they may accumulate on some asocial network).

    Non status page

The Microsoft-owned site's status page shows everything is OK, at time of writing, as does the API health monitor.

As with most services these days the status page may as well just be static HTML, and the only time it will tell you anything useful is if it is down itself.
