We all know that it's coming to us as well. It's just a matter of time before the spin doctors create a new nudge protocole and for someone to commit a crime that justifies the move.

Anyone who says "if you've nothing to hide" should be forced to reveal their bank account information on Twitter and see how well that works out. After all, they've nothing to hide, have they?

At lunch with a friend yesterday, she told me that she had nothing to hide online and anyway, she has incognito mode in Chrome. After I finished choking on my burger, I explained that she did have things to hide as she does banking online. I also told her about how incognito mode actually works.

She laughed hysterically and then turned a peculiar shade of grey.

They should, of course, read the small print they clicked through when signing up for their online bank account, online retail accounts, social media accounts or whatever. They'll find that those accounts all require them to keep their access details confidential - in other words, hidden. Yes, they have stuff they're contractually obliged to hide.

Indeed, the ability to positively identify lost small children is about the only safe use for this technology.

Within a few years biometrics in general will only be of use to identify the body right in front of you (especially when some reassembly is required) because deep fakes will have improved until they match sensor resolution.

Deep fakes at the level of detail you describe, are only possible for rich people and party members.

Us proles are the real target of the biometrics push

There are enough Blairites influencing Labour policy to make me fully expect this to happen in the UK in the next couple of years.

there will be a QR code linked to a mass of identifying data.

So all stored on some internet-connected website reachable via an HTTPS link? What could possibly go wrong...

QR codes - leading to a 301 redirect, what more could MITM software ask for !

Can't recall where I read that in the 30s the Dutch government had a (paper) database with lots of information about citizens. When the Germans invaded they found it immensely useful.

They recorded, among other things, religion of the person. Guess what happened to those with the "wrong" one.

Recording (very) personal data is not a blessing. It is a gigantic liability.

    Blair

Blair will be salivating at this news.

He’s been pushing this for years.

The UK will probably deliver this by stealth. A digital currency app that collects your biometric data. The government will offer £20 for free and the sheep will lap it up.

    Imagine that ...

A single party, communist government seeking to incorporate and track as much personally identifiable information as possible. The mind boggles.

At least Western democratic governments treat privacy not as a nuisance, but as a sacrosanct principle.
