back to article Faraday plots a 64-core Arm chip with Intel inside

Intel Foundry Services (IFS) has found a customer in Faraday Technology, which plans to fab its Arm Neoverse-based processors using the x86 giant's 18A process tech. The union of Intel process technology and Arm chip designs seems fated from IFS's inception. The vast majority of processors outside the datacenter and PC market …

    ARM BBQ, Intel sauce?

Well, here's to hoping that SoftBank's tempura shake'n bake outfit upgrades its crispy CSS oven-ready recipes to include those tasty neoverse V2 chips soon -- to everyone's delight in extra yummy performance goodness! Those'd be perfect companions to an evening brewski, enjoyed in or out of the Faraday cage ...

    Not news

Not really news considering Intel was the lead ARM chip supplier before flogging StrongArm/XScale to Marvel for a pittance … in 2006 in the biggest act of IT corporate stupidity I can think until HP and Autonomy.

Stupid yes, but rather profitable, Sold O2 for £16 billion in 2006 and purchased EE for £12.5 in 2015. I'd also say EE was an upgrade over O2,

      "Not really news"

Give me a break. It is absolutely news given that it's Arm Neoverse, Intel's latest process nodes, and you're referring to something about 20 years ago. In 2024, this is new.

      Re: Not news

The Intel XScale ARMs were never produced on the same process node as the x86, being aimed at PDAs and low power I/O applications, and in any case were horribly crippled by Intel not understanding the architecture.

With this proper ARM developed Neoverse being produced on a current node, it will be very interesting to compare it with 18A x86s, and see if wipes the floor with them.
