back to article Investors threw 50% less money at quantum last year

Quantum companies received 50 percent less venture cap funding last year as investors switched to generative AI or shied away from risky bets on Silicon Valley startups. Progress in quantum computing is being made, but practical applications of the technology are still likely years away. Investment in quantum technology …

If only they could observe that the money was actually there.

"part of broader venture capital trends"

Yes, the broad trend that wants to make money sooner rather than later.

Quantum might be a valid process in ten years, or not.

Statistical analysis machines (called AI by the clueless) can be put together now and make money within a few months.

Sure, the VCs aren't abandoning quantum, they're just padding their nests for future investments while building machines to make deepfakes of some pop idol.

    That stuff brings revenue.

I'd like to think investors have realised that quantum computing is complete and utter bollocks, but I'm afraid you are right, and they are just spunking their cash on this year's AI fad instead.

    The way forward?

Maybe what we really need is AI running on quantum computers. Not sure why, except it sounds even more trendy.

How bout AI running on quantum computers in the cloud, powered by renewable energy, and storing their results on a blockchain?

May i suggest a D6 as a much cheaper means of establishing this capability?

Never understood this “quantum computer” thing. No existing computer would exist without “quantum” effects, like the quantum tunnelling that makes a transistor work. So they are already “quantum” computers!
