back to article X hiring 100 content cops in bid to tame Wild West of online safety

Not long after it emerged that X, formerly Twitter, cut 1 in 3 Trust and Safety employees after Elon Musk's takeover in October 2022, the social media platform now claims it's ready to hire 100 full-time content moderators at a new office in Austin, Texas. After a long period of speculation, hard figures on moderation cuts …

    X

You now get a completely different experience if you report a post in the EU compared to anywhere else in the world (including the UK).

The form you fill in now asks if the post is illegal under EU law and then presents you with various reasons as to why the post is illegal. If you use this option, posts tend to be removed rather quickly.

Everywhere else in the world just get the standard form, followed a week later by a "the post didn't break the rules ... why not use block" recommendation.

AKA: Want to report something on Twitter? Use a VPN.

At least you get some sort of feed back, with Instagram you have no clue about complaint ever being followed

Meh, I'm good with either, if you upvote you liked it, if you downvote, I triggered a gammon. Either way, I'm happy.

Will that turn out to be, hire a handful now, and the remaining on 31st December 2024?

      Too little too late?

With high profile cases like AI generated nudes of a certain celebrity showing they are unable to filter clearly problematic content in a timely manner X will probably have to face consequences unless they get working counter measures established much sooner then then end of the year.

Probably after the end of the current Xitter FY, assuming Xitler is able to make the debt payments to the loan sharks he got in bed with to be queen bitch on Xitter. And then they'll probably end up being fired the moment it seems like various regulators and legislators have their attentions focused elsewhere.

Not to mention the stress of living in constant fear that you might be about to be canned for expressing the 'wrong' opinion of Xitler

"canned for expressing the 'wrong' opinion of Xitler"

Funny, that. Someone I know just opened a new Twitter account and posted an image of him blocking Musk's account. Within hours his new account had been shut down for "ban evasion". Except he'd never been banned - he'd only deleted his old accounts. So support over there isn't moribund; it's just been entirely redirected into kicking out anyone who is even mildly critical of Musk.

And stop with the "Xitler" crap, please. Yes, he's a Nazi - but he wants you to call the site "X" and you're doing it. Don't give Nazis what they want. [1]

[1] Unless, of course, they say "Can you please kick me repeatedly in the testicles".

    Errmm

"In an X Safety blog post published on Friday, the company claimed to have "suspended 12.4 million accounts for violating our CSE policies. This is up from 2.3 million accounts in 2022.""

Are they admitting the number of paedophiles on Xitter increased by at least 2.3 million since Musk took over?

No, pedophilia is just the excuse for authoritarianism. (not only twitter, in general)

Benarroch said. X users must be 13 years old to open an account, and those under 17 cannot be targeted by advertisers.

Does that mean if I open an account and tell X I'm 13 years old, I can do what I want with no ads?

    1. Sora2566 Bronze badge

You cannot be *targeted* by ads. That's different from not being *shown* any ads.
