back to article 20,000-plus tech workers got the boot this month

More than 20,000 people working in tech lost their job in January, continuing the 2023 trend when 250,000+ were ditched after companies hired heavily in the pandemic and couldn't justify headcount amid slowing customer spending. Here we are heading back to the bad old days of slavery, where the bosses are worthy of names and enormous wealth whlie the workers who actually do the work, get basically treated like worthless nameless individuals. THe first steps to making people non human beings is not giving them a name.

    And how many were hired?

The way the article is written makes it sound like there is some sort of tech recession, but there are always companies that are either poorly run or performatively "cutting the fat" to please Wall Street. Yes Microsoft laid off 1,900 people. They'd also added 75,000 employees (a 50% increase) between 2019 and 2023.

Yeah, but these days "good news is no news" for most of the media. Positive thinking is discouraged, only stuff showing how badly the world is going is permitted on the front page. Doom and gloom rulez is the mantra.

What is sadly predictable is Elliott Asset Management appearing as a reason.

They are utterly despicable, like all these investment and wealth management organisations.

The only thing that matters is profit, as much as possible is as short a time as possible. Completely ignoring any long term outcomes.
