back to article Microsoft hits $3 trillion as investors drink AI Kool-Aid

Microsoft has crossed the $3 trillion valuation threshold thanks in no small part to investors buying into the mega-corp's AI vision. The only other business to have achieved this market capitalization is Apple. However, Microsoft's big bet on machine learning is set to be tested in the coming months as customers get to grips …

      x20 multiple

In the halcyon days of Windows, Microsoft made unfeasible profits because it's retail offer was high price while it's costs were "obscenely" low.

      Running cloud infrastructure isn't cheap.

The profit has to come from somewhere.

Funny how MS chose to go from a low cost high profit operation which delivered a new product every few years, to a high cost lower profit organisation…

How about putting 0.1% of that

into QA - ie test stuff before sending out to users as an update

They'll never do that as it eats into the profits.

At this point the only way you'll get Windows Q&A back is if Microsoft goes bust and someone competent buys up the remains.

    Possibility

Wouldn't be possible if not for corrupt regulators and tax man looking the other way while hammering smaller competition with excessive regulation and punitive taxes.

      Re: Possibility

"Less regulation," cries the person who wants to hamper open source development by heaping regulations onto it. "Punitive taxes," cries the person who wants small businesses to pay a licensing fee to open source projects that are primarily written by big corporations.

      What a troll.

What do we have here? False analogy, misrepresentation, appropriation, gaslighting and ad hominem for a good measure.

Nice combo for such a short comment. My other post must have really hurt your fragile ego. Sorry.

    Diversifying Away From Windows

Remember that PC sales (and Windows licences along with them) have been declining for years. So this high share price must be for other products/services besides Windows.

Apple used to only make computers. Then they made phones as well.

Somehow I doubt that accounts for Microsoft’s high share price ...
