Please don’t lead others to believe that IT did not know what they were doing.
That thinking lulls people into thinking that if they are up to date, patched, and doing best security practices they will not be hacked. So they don’t prepare for when they are.
I have seen too many that were current and exceeded best practices in every way including testing get hacked. IT does did not write the OS’s they are running on, they can only prepare and mitigate.
